So my best friend is deployed with the Army in Iraq right now. He's definitely not a liberal or a coward in any way, but he's disillusioned with the war and we've been getting into arguments about it. Here's an excerpt from his blog to give you an idea of what I'm talking about.

"victory in samarra. at a high price.

"a lot of bush supporters have told me that even if kerry wins, it wouldnt get me out of here. well god damnit, im not a fucking dumbass. i know that, but something tells me kerry can handle the situations here much better than bush and he wont be sending me off to fight another questionable war. plus i'm confident he will get me out sooner than bush. people are dying. what the fuck is wrong with you people? as you sit humbly in your homes and rant on about how bush saved you 5 bucks, innocent iraqis are dying and so are american troops... for what? prove to me why this war is worth sacrificing good men and ill shut the hell up and if you can't, i'm seriously going to kick your ass. i'm not fucking around here people. i will literally fuck you up. and if i'm wrong, well, i'm still gonna kick your ass for being a smart ass with me but that ain't gonna happen.

"don't get me wrong here people. i ain't no coward thats afraid of dying in the battlefield. i've volunteered for every mission i went plus was the first from my unit to go on a mission. when the war began, i was pumped up to go to get rid of those WMDs but now, we're here trying to reconciliate for our mistakes. i see no nukes, chem weapons, bio weapons, or genocides."

I'm voting for Bush no matter what, and he knows it. Still, though, I feel like maybe he's right that I'm just sitting here humbly in my home, and maybe if I were in Iraq with him I'd change my mind too.

What do you guys think?
Link Posted: 10/9/2004 12:17:21 AM EST
I'd vote bush all the way. The men under Kerry's command in vietnam hated him, and i'm sure the men that would be under his command in this war would hate him too. From every person who has served in the military that I know, they have told me the UN is the biggest pain in the ass. With Kerry wanting the UN to control our military, well just think about it.

When I was in the military, there were a few liberals too (very few). That was under Clinton's command, and we all hated him being the CINC. However, the liberals in the military then knew to keep their focking trap shut or they'd be deluged with hatred. Guess this guy didn't learn his lesson yet.

reading this, it makes me wonder if his friend has seen some of the mass graves they've been reporting or the sexual incidents with that idiot Usay-whatshisface....

Ask him if that means anything to him..

I think you're a Kerry supporting liar.
Link Posted: 10/9/2004 1:54:48 AM EST
Sure, go vote for Kerry.
Then when your friend writes you asking for you to send him ammo, MREs, ballistic armor, toilet paper, diesel, and everything else they ran out of because of Kerry's budget cuts, remind him how much better it is now.

if kerry wins, it wouldnt get me out of here.

Ahhh, the true reason,

something tells me kerry can handle the situations here much better than bush and he wont be sending me off to fight another questionable war. plus i'm confident he will get me out sooner than bush.

Sorry, but your friend willingly joined, and needs to suck it up like the rest of our brave troops over there.
We have many members here on this site serving over there as well, and they would all also like to come home.
The difference is they are aware of what Kerry would do to us and our military, and are willing to give up personal safety and comfort rather than take the easy way out.
To our troops, God bless and protect them, to your friend GET A CLUE!

BTW low post count + bizarre assertion = DU . Unlike DU, you won't get banned here for such.

I'm sitting here wondering if your friend joind the military for the college $$$$.

If so, and I were him, I'd be disillusioned too.

Hey - its a soldiers DUTY to biotch and complain. Its in the field manual. Sounds like your friend is just being a good soldier.

Just remind him we are thankful for his service, and "that its always darkest right before the dawn."

Many I served with in Vietnam in 1968 were going to vote for Nixon because it was believed that he would get us out of Vietnam which, of course, didn't happen. I was not old enough to vote as the 21 age requirement was in effect.
Also, Eisenhower campaigned on the promise to end the war in Korea when running for his first term.

I concur with the calls of BS. Even your supposed "friend," despite his misgivings, says in his blog that he will still vote for Bush.

If he e-mailed you something in private to the contrary, why not post it, instead of a public blog post?

What kind of best friends communicate through blogs?
Link Posted: 10/9/2004 4:10:51 AM EST
You friend's view of the world, as with many young men and women is rather narrowly focused.

The best thing that could happen to him, his family and to all the rest of us...for that matter the entire world, is for George W. Bush to be re-elected.

Kerry is a pacifist and a socialist. If he is elected, the Islamofacists will be dancing in the streets and all our lives will be at greater risk.

You might try to explain, with an understanding of his position, how important it is for him and his fellow troops to hang in there and vote for Bush.

No offense to you, but when your "friend" joined the military he knew the risks:
People die.
No shit!

Kerry is a liar, he's stabbed us all in the back when he testified before Congress
back in the 70's and THIS has disqualified him from being BOTH President
AND Commander-in-Chief.

NO soldier would serve under him without having that in the back of his mind.

Screw Kerry!

+1 on both clever and bullshit, and he won't be locked or his post deleted. Unlike his compatriots at du. Over there you just mention one thing that doesn't fit the party line( socialist party that is) and they rat you out and delete your post. I haven't been locked yet though. Saving that for Nov 2nd!!

You know, one of the things I've been talking about with the guys in my unit, my friends, family and, anyone else who'll listen () is the affect a kerry win would have on the troops in Iraq.

To ME (All knowing political genius that I am) it would be like saying to the troops.."Everything you've gone through, all your sacrifices, the friends you've seen hurt and sometimes killed has been for nothing. The American people in effect just vetoed your mission and think it's all big a huge DIVERSION or, at the least, a MISTAKE (And here you thought you were doing something noble)".

A vote for kerry is a slap in the face to those folks.
Link Posted: 10/9/2004 5:57:12 AM EST
If kerry ever comes to my unit, I will give him the same courtesy treatment they gave hillary, anyone have the pictures of them shaking her hand while giving her the finger?
