So a good friend is being commissioned into the Army and I got an invitation from him. He is a great person , and doesn't have much family out here. I plan on going but have afew questions:

1.) What should I wear? Is a suit appropriate?

2.)What about gifts?

Thanks for the help

A suit would be very appropriate, and as far as gifts go, if you know what his hobbies are go from there.

Practical gifts are good, such as multi-tools. The commissioning ceremonies I've been to had a table set up for the gifts brought by the guests. Hopefully, some of our commissioned posters on ARFCOM can jump in and offer some better advice as to what would be more beneficial to a young Army 2nd Leutenant.

If nothing else, you could always write him a check to help offset the costs of his dress uniforms. I assume officers in the Army have to pay for theirs as well, and it probably isn't cheap.

How about a nice personalized Ek knife as a gift?
