Pretty damn rude this… I'm rapidly going off Spain and may start regarding them as harshly as I regard France…

A SNUB FROM SPAIN
By JOHN J. MILLER

October 10, 2004 --  THERE'S a place in the world where French troops soon will be relieving American ones. But it's not Iraq — it's Spain.

French soldiers have been invited to march in tomorrow's annual procession marking Dia de la Hispanidad, which is the Spanish version of Columbus Day. They're replacing U.S. Marines who have been disinvited from participating.

Three years ago, in a gesture of solidarity following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Spain asked the Marines to take part in this annual celebration. They were invited back in 2002 and 2003. It looked like a new tradition was in the making.

But Spain's prime minister, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, has put a stop to that. "What does not continue," explained Defense Minister Jose Bono, "is subordination and getting down on our knees on orders from a foreign government."

Of course, the United States has not ordered Spain to do anything — and that includes sending troops to Iraq last year, as the previous government of Jose Maria Aznar volunteered to do as a member of President Bush's "coalition of the willing."

But just days before Spain's national elections in March, terrorists bombed a commuter train in Madrid, murdering some 200 Spaniards. Suddenly Zapatero's promise to withdraw Spanish soldiers from Iraq resonated with voters and propelled his Socialist Workers' Party to an unexpected triumph. The new prime minister made the panicky pullout his first order of business, and France gained a partner in appeasement.

This latest Spanish snub comes as no surprise. At last year's parade, Zapatero refused to follow the respectful example of other politicians and stand when the Marines passed in front of him.

Now Zapatero says the French troops will march in Spain's parade to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Paris — as if French troops had much of anything to do with the Allied successes of 1944.

Zapatero's decision is disappointing not because the Marines need to hear the cheer of Spanish crowds, but because it underscores the political victory al Qaeda scored seven months ago when its deadly attack gave birth to one of Europe's most anti-American governments. In this particular instance, the terrorists really did win.

There's no telling what the terrorists may attempt on our own soil before Nov. 2. One thing's for sure: French and Spanish troops won't march in Baghdad any time soon.

But perhaps they'll think about parading down Pennsylvania Avenue if John Kerry is inaugurated in January.

It appears Zapatero seeks to put Spain back on the path to obscurity. It's too bad -- I had high hopes for them.

Spain: The New France.

Pathetic litle country that once ruled the world, before Great Britian kicked their asses in 5 consecutive Spanish Armada attempts to take English soil.

Sir Francis Drake could take Zapatero with one arm tied behind his back.

I guess they're mad that Americans bombed that train station.

Zapatero looks like a homo.  Like a cross between John Edwards and Jim McGreevy.  How come it seems every Western European country is one election away from total pacifist/socialist insanity?  Is it a hang over from the Cold War and all the subversion the KGB financed?  Where do these people come from?  Even when we had Clinton running things our system still had the GOP to balance things out.  Maybe the Parlimentary system is to blame.

Must be that nothing kills a culture faster than a generation of Democratic Socialism.  If it wasn't for Lady Thatcher GB would probably be in the same fix.

But they are more than willing to take orders from and submit to terrorists.  Hell, they changed their entire government to be more terrorist friendly!

El Generalisimo Francisco Franco may have had his less than desireable traits (serious Fascist and all), but one thing you have to give him is that he was NOT a pussy.  A real macho, if there ever was one.

If he were still in charge, he would have executed every single fucking Muslim in Spain post haste.

Impossible.  If Spain were a nation of gay monkeys they would still be better than France.

You know, I wish kerry would put half as much effort into "defying" the UN as idiotic European leaders do in "defying" the US.

Hey Spain, thanks for the help, but FUCK OFF! We'll take it from here, you pussies.

Nice to know you can cave in to terrorism, losers.

Well, we DO have some more important things to do, unlike the French or Spanish.

Fuck them. When the islamofascist assholes are running amok in their country and they are begging for our help, we should  just seal off the border of their countries and point and laugh.

The Marines should show up anyway.  Just rumble ashore in LCAC's and march all the way to Madrid, or wherever the parade is.  So they have to return fire along the way, who cares?  Besides, kids love fireworks.

That or have a few Harriers show up and plop down on the main drag in front of the parade.

Actually they have retaken it.  Don't forget they conquered Spain in 711AD (what a fitting year for members of the ROP).  Owned the place for over 700 years and are simply returning.  Amazing that the French actually succeeded in stopping them the first time.  They too are on the road to complete submission.  Welcome to Dar al-Islam.

We'll see what happens when some Al Queda whack-job sets off another bomb in Madrid.  Whatever...

US Marines have better things to do than march in a Spanish Parade.  Hell I'm suprised to learn we agreed to do it in the first place.
