Sorting out the den today and came across this original photograph of the Tirpitz, taken by Photo Droppel in Wilhelmshaven. Should appeal to you German Military enthusiasts.

A beautiful ship that didn't do much. The Royal Navy kept her holed up in fjords, got damaged by an X-craft, then had the piss knocked out of her by No. 9 and No. 617 Sqd's dropping 12,000 lb Tallboys.

I was given a bunch of old photos of Royal Navy ships by a guy who was an artist and retiring…he painted the box art for some model kits back in the early 60's. The Tirpitz was in the bundle. I was quite surprised it's a genuine original photo of the Tirpitz, not a postwar reprint. ANdy |

She's the sister ship to the Bismark. And they were gorgeous ships. The only ships that looked better were the Iowa's. But I might be a bit biased.  I met a girl from Trondheim once-upon-a-time. Would have been the winter of 1977-78. Her dad was a professor at the University of Trondheim. She was an exchange student and stayed at our house for a weekend confernce. Yes, she was cute and blonde.
