Some Lazy A$$ SOB endangers people's lives because they are too damn lazy to do their own f_ckin job
This turd should be doing a LOT more time than he is, what caught him was Audits and then an admission later.
Then the pecker compounds his problems with more lies

from:http://www.wtkr.com/news/wtkr-false-certifications-nf,0,7340258.story

Excerpts - Robert Raymond Ruks, 34, of Portsmouth was sentenced today to 37 months in prison, followed by a term of three years supervised release, for making false statements to Navy officials and federal agents by falsely certifying that he had inspected the hulls of Navy ships and submarines

According to court documents, Ruks worked for Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding, Newport News (NGSB) as a Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) inspector.

On May 14, 2009, Ruks admitted to his supervisors that he had falsely certified that he had inspected three lift pad welds on a Navy submarine when in fact he had not.

A re-inspection of all the welds certified by Ruks revealed that 14 structural welds and two pipe welds (one of which was a SUBSAFE, critical weld) were determined to be defective.

There were also a considerable number of welds Ruks certified that were labeled as "inaccessible" due to their location. The re-inspection required 18,906 man-hours, which included the correction of the defective weld joints, at a cost of approximately $654,000.

It really doesn't surprise me.  I spent a good 18 months in Newport News when my carrier was being built (USS Ronald Reagan CVN 76).  Most of these "yard birds" are shit bags!  For being a brand new ship, we had some real issues with things and had to be finished once we completed our homeport change to San Diego.

This man needs to be taken down to test depth and then shot out the tube.

Considering the possible outcome of his lack of work and being a worthless ass he should have gotten more time.  I don't care if he is a first time offender since many brave sailors could have been hurt or killed thanks to this asshole.  I think maybe a nice blindfolded visit by a bunch of naval recruits would do wonders for his outlook and understanding of the magnitude of his crime.

As a CWI and someone who has made a career for himself as a weld inspector. Reading this kind of stuff pisses me off.

He understood the magnitude of his crime.

He just didn't care that he was possibly subjecting the lives of over 100 men to a horrible crushing death.

If there was a way to send him down to test depth in a vessel with defective welding, that would be a suitable punishment.

Precisely my thoughts as well.

Now, the only thing I cannot pinpoint in my mind is:

Was he smoking weed, drinking, or napping instead of welding?

Ok, I have witnessed certified NDT (magnetic testing, penetrate testing, and ultrasound testing, as well as Xray testing, but you can't really watch that )  on Newport torpedo tubes and other submarine stuff as well as T beams for aircraft carries.

I've done it too, not that hard, but why on earth somebody would not inspect welds is beyond me.

Nothing more nerve racking than grinding a weld on a torpedo tube that cutting too deep on requires letters to Washington to weld repair.

You don't fuck up Newport, That shit is too expensive to fuck up.

Man, Shipyards....

We hated shipyard in part because of the workers.  Nothing like going into a tight area and seeing yard apes laying inbetween frames asleep on port and starboard sides.

Nothing like seeing Hawaiian slang marked in pen on refurbished components.

There were only two shipyard groups at PHNSY with their act together - the Non-nuke shift test engineers and the welders.  The STE's were longtime shipyard employees with hard earned expereience and common sense, and the hull welders planned, prepared, and were damned good welders.

Buddy of mine was a welder in a shipyard in Miami . They used to take waste in 55 gallon drums and dump it in the ocean. He called the EPA , The boss called him in the office and played the tape , he was fired  3 weeks later .
