An elite group of exiles from North Korea gathered in September in the Netherlands to discuss the state of the regime they used to serve. The conference included top diplomats, an ex-senior official of the Ministry of Security, and a high-ranking military officer, but the keynote address was given by Jang Jin-sung, formerly a key member of Kim Jong-il's propaganda machine. Included in Jang's speech was a surprising assertion: North Korea is in the midst of a civil war.

Nothing. They make money by threatening to build a nuke if we don't pay them.

I take that back. I think they sell weapons to the Arabs.

They threaten to export artillery shells to South Korea.
Then we send them money.

They print their own US greenbacks. An economy could be self sufficient without exporting anything. NK is not, but a country can be. They're propped up by China too.

I don't know if this rumor is true but I would not be surprised. Wacking his uncle and others like that probably was not a good idea. I believe he was in a weak position to begin with considering his age and other factors. It was only a matter of time before some of the elites moved on this increasingly weak and unstable dynasty.

And crystal meth and heroin. They traffick it through their embassies.

Also counterfeit luxury goods like clothing and purses.

They already have nukes, unless they used the only ones they had for tests, which I doubt.

They export quite a bit: drugs, counterfeit cash of remarkable quality, weapons, lots of products that end up getting labled as made in China. You've probably watched cartoons animated by Norks actually.

Nobody really knows WTF is happening. His aunt used to be exceptionally powerful, until her husband was executed and now nobody knows where she is; for one example.

As for having a civil war and nobody knowing, the west didn't know how bad the Cultural Revolution in China was until so many bodies were being washed down rivers. So long as its factions of generals and party leadership killing each other and the bulk of the army waiting to see who the new boss is,it'd be impossible to know

Wonderful , a civil war with loose nukes as the prize . . . . . unleash the stupidity.

What would ISIS pay for a few nukes . . . . they could scrounge a few hundred million from their booty-sack. And they might come in handy for Iran or Israel or .....us

However remote, there is a possibility that key players have come together to overthrow Mr. Pillsbury and replace his rule with some sort of power-balancing government. It'll be interesting to see what happens, regardless.

China will move in to stabilize if things get too out of hand. They don't want 20 million starving people swarming Manchuria.

The last time there was turmoil in the DPRK China moved a quite large force near the border.

And if we suddenly see an "exercise" near the border, we'll know something is up. To be honest I hope they nuke themselves, and I hope the video of the blast ends up on live leak.

As pointed out they also farm out very cheap labor to far eastern Russia, essentially providing mining and wood cutting slaves for rent.
They also rent their military. Assad is using Nork pilots and they've been used quite a bit in Africa ,from Mugabe using them for ethnic cleansing in the early 80s to Laurent Kabila trading uranium for troops in Congo.

They supply the bulk portion of Asia's meth. Use is very high there, afterall how do you keep people working without sufficient food?
