Does anyone know about Ford F-350 with the 460 motor. I will be using it to tow a jeep Cherokee and later adding a camper to it. I am thinking of buy a 1985 crew cab 4x4 with 85,000 miles. The person is asking $4500 for it. What type of gas mileage does it get? Are these good motors? Any problem towing a Cherokee on a trailer? towing with a camper on the back up a mountain? Any know problems know with the Ford trucks? What is the difference between a 150, 250 and 350?

I really want a diesel but this is what I can afford right now.

I don't know if that year had carberators or FI. I know a guy with an early 90's F250 with a FI 460. The truck has close to 200k on it and the motor is still strong as an ox. He gets about 10 mpg.
F150 = 1/2 ton
F250 = 3/4 ton
F350 = 1 ton
These are not the weights of the trucks, they are the ratings of what they will carry. However the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks can be loaded well over these ratings.

$4500 sounds like a good deal if it is in good shape and will pass smog. My 1988 F-350 extended cab 460 gets 11 MPG.

F-150 = half ton capacity brakes and suspension
F-250 = 3/4 ton brks & susp
F-350 = 1 ton brks and susp

suspension, suspension, suspension!!! If gas, 8 to 10 MPG? However, a nice rig!
