Police say victim fought with driver

A New Orleans bicyclist was shot three times after getting into an argument with the driver of a sport utility vehicle that struck him, authorities said.

The wounded man, whose name New Orleans police wouldn't release, was riding his bicycle in the 2400 block of North Villere Street when the white SUV ran into him, said Lt. Sid Bournes, Police Department spokesman. The man jumped off his bicycle and began arguing with the unidentified driver, Bournes said. During the argument, the driver shot the bicyclist three times in the torso with a large-caliber gun and drove off, Bournes said.

The bicyclist was taken to Charity Hospital, and it appears his injuries aren't life-threatening, Bournes said. Bournes said he was talkative but wouldn't tell police much about the man who shot him.
