Here's a little something from this
months Random Shots section of American Rifleman

Over the years, the Rifleman staff has heard from thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts who are also NRA members. As a matter of fact you'll find quite a few motorcycles every day in NRA's parking lot. Many of those we've heard from take their freedom very seriously - whether it comes to the Right to Keep and Bear Arms or riding. Not so with the editorial staff of the magazine Motorcycle Cruiser.
Apparently, advertisements from firms such as Henry Repeating Arms Co. and Smith and Wesson ran in its pages. A few anti-gun readers
wrote in complaining about the ads, and the editors not only chose to print them but followed up with an editor's note that read in part: "The truth is, all of us at Motorcycle Cruiser despise guns...The gun ads have disappeared. But in the future, please bear in mind that scum grows in every pool. We'll keep yours as clean as possible."

Thanks for reading.
Your scummy pal,
gW.
(Oh, I'll make the first
"They must be talking about S&W" comment [:)])

Typical "I don't care WHAT freedoms they take, as long as its not MY freedom>"

As an avid two stroke motorcycle fan, I've already seen what gov't intervention can do to freedom.

And it sucks.

This could be old news.  I remembera couple-3 months ago an issue like this came up.

Turned out the publisher of the magazine is a PC-type female person looking to cash into the yuppie driven Harley craze.  She got a LOT of negative response, realized she was losing a significant number of subscriptions and changed her mind in about one week.

At the time I wondered how a PC-oriented mag targeted at Harley owners was going to play.  Another solution looking for a problem.

I knew it! That was my first thought when I read that!
BTW, does anybody actually read that magazine?
If I did, I'd cancel my subscription and re-up with EasyRiders.

I have a subscription to it.  They had an ad for the Henry AR-7 Survival Rifle.  I bought one the next day based on that ad alone.  The next issue had a lot of complainers about the ads, and the editor tried to apologize to them.  I sent her a nastygram about her 'views' and actually got a reply trying to retract what she said about her "entire staff despising guns".  The last issue has her apologizing to gun owners on her choice of words, meaning that the staff despised violence, not guns, and that more people on the staff own guns than don't.  However, the pressure was there and there will no longer be gun ads in that magazine.

Not an NRA member because they are stomping on my rights to public land by supporting CARA.

I jammed them up in October.

Editor:

No doubt by this time you have been swamped with letters to the editor regarding your silly position on firearms advertising.  Let me join the chorus.  You've really stepped in it this time.

I have been riding Hondas, Suzukis, Yamahas and Kawasakis for the past 27 years and shooting Smith & Wessons, Colts, Rugers, Sig-Sauers and Glocks for about the same amount of time.  For some bizarre reason, I have yet to hold up a liquor store or shoot my spouse.

I would respectfully suggest that if firearms advertising freaks out your squeamish readers, they may pick up a copy of "Humpty Dumpty" or some other children's magazine that won't offend their tender sensibilities.  The same stereotypes they want to apply to, say, "gun-toting rednecks," apply to "meth-crazed biker trash."  If I am the former, perhaps they are the latter.

Meanwhile, this card-carrying member of the "scum" you so generously refer to has purchased his last "Motorcycle Cruiser."  See ya.

Much to my surprise she wrote back!

Yes, you arrived at the whipping post a bit late. I've written a clarification of my statement in the current issue and an apology to anyone I offended. Mostly, it was a misunderstanding. I absolutely was not referring to gun owners when I said scum, I was talking about offensive ads, like those for porn sites, which we do not run. I'm back to writing about motorcycles now and I hope you'll forgive me. Thanks.

Well I didn't forgive her for her backpedalling response, but I gotta give her credit for writing back.  Most commies just say "screwya" to themselves and don't even bother with a response.
