I've seen shins broken before, but never as badly as that.  Kinda makes me wonder if the schlep had his shins numbed before he fought with novicaine or the like.  I doubt it broke just on that one hit.  More likely, it was cracked and that was the proverbial straw.  In either case he would have been in pain up until that point.
