This couldn't have come at a more inconvenient time. I'm traveling on business to Madison, WI and I've spent more time in the bathroom than anywhere else today. It doesn't help that the temperature here is.. oh... 0 degrees, so between my fever, chills, and nausea, I can't get comfortable enough to get well.

Not trying to turn this into a poop thread.

Anyone got remedies besides stay hydrated and avoid staining my undies? I'm not going to be eating solid foods anytime soon, so I stocked up on the following drinks before heading into my hotel room:

Water

OJ

Gatorade

I also picked up one of those Campbell Chicken Noodle soups, in case I get hungry and need the broth.

I guess I'm just waiting it out at this point. I've pretty much wasted away the customer's money today as I am paid at an hourly rate as a contractor. Next to screwing up on a work assignment, this just makes me feel terrible because I didn't travel this far to get sick and not be able to work.

Stay away from the OJ.  Acidic drinks won't help.

Gatorade and Pedialite.

And eat some soft, crust-less white bread.  Your stomach and intestines will thank you for it.

Pretzels, 7up, and don't dine at the place that served you bad food again

For the sake of my fellow ARFCOMMERS, the Subway sandwich shop at DFW airport is the likely culprit.

I think the combination of "sick season" + "hundred thousands of people passing by" + "cold cuts" = breeding ground for bacteria on sandwich ingredients that are never heated beyond 140*F.

Next time I eat in the airport (which will be never as long as I remember today), I'll get the most piping hot food I can find and have them nuke the hell out of it for good measure.

Imodium helps prevent accidents.  Drink the electrolytes and bananas and cheese seem to help.

Bananas.

Are you venting at both ends?

Been there done that. Just try to continue with the fluids . Best thing you can do for yourself. You should feel much better tomorrow .

Just south. I've got a reduced gag reflex, so I usually do not vomit. This morning I would have given anything to be able to vomit, though. That nagging feeling is just the worst.

The thing I hate about food poisoning is that it's hard to tell where it came from.  Symptoms might pop up in just a few hours, or they might not appear for a couple of days after eating the bad food.

Broth, water, jello, and crackers.

Good luck.

"There are 72,519 tiles on my bathroom floor. I've counted them many times."

"But have you named them yet?"

I had food poisoning in 2000 after taking a trip to the Orient.  Eating from street vendors was my mistake.

I went to the ER and the doctors told me that because I had taken OTC anti-diarrheal meds (e.g. Pepto) I was actually prolonging the agony.  So don't take any Pepto or Imodium.  They said not much I could do other than stay hydrated and let time take its course.  There are powder mixes that are available that can help restore some of your vital minerals but I don't recall the exact brand name –– might want to ask the local pharmacy if they have anything along those lines.

Best of luck, I know how bad you feel right now.

Go get some Activated Charcoal from the WalMart or CVS, Wal Greens or the like and dump, then stir the contents of a couple of capsules into a cup of warm water and drink it down. Do it again in an hour or so if you haven't already experienced relief from the effects of the food posioning, it is not uncommon for it to work in 20 minutes or so. Pedialyte or similar is better than Gatorade but gatorade will do. The charcoal will put an end to the bacteria causing the discomfort.

I always wait a good while before taking Imodium or whatever.  I figure if I ate something bad, I don't want to stop my system from getting rid of it.  Your body knows what it's doing.

But after a while, you realize everything is gone, but your body doesn't believe it yet.  That's when you take meds.

Pedialyte,  is awesome to drink when your sick.  Its got less sugar in it than gatorade.

Gatorade went right through me when I had Food Poisoning.  Ice Pops helped the most.

Makes you wonder how many other people got sick.
