Florida Gators linebacker Antonio Morrison has been arrested for the second time in five weeks, this time for allegedly barking at a police dog and resisting arrest, and will miss at least the first two games of the season after being suspended from the team Sunday. Morrison's defense was the dog barked first, according to a police report. ** UPDATE ** State attorney William Cervone said Tuesday that he made the decision after watching police video of the arrest. He believed Morrison did not do anything that warranted being arrested and that pursuing charges would be inappropriate. "To be fair, law enforcement officers are not lawyers or fully aware of what the courts require. Nonetheless, and fair or not, their decisions must meet those standards," Cervone said. "The charge of interfering with a police animal requires malice, and none exists. lt also requires that the animal be engaged in some official duty, and it cannot be said that sitting in the back of a police cruiser in case he is needed constitutes being engaged in such activity by a police dog. "As to the charge of resisting an officer, I challenge anyone who looks at the video of the incident to find any resistance, physical or otherwise, beyond questioning the actions of law enforcement, which is not illegal. Certainly, I see nothing that would allow or persuade a jury to convict." |

I'm an alumnus of the University of Florida, and I still live in N. Florida. This guy is a complete moron and needs to be kicked off the team. He was arrested only about a month ago for punching a bouncer at a nightclub. He is presently on a deferred prosecution program and now this shit happens. Both events occurred early in the morning in questionable situations. The guy may potentially be an NFL caliber linebacker, but we do not need anyone with this type of attitude associated with UF. He has been suspended for the first two games at this point. Realistically, barking at a police dog is a little bit funny, but stupid. Going over to someone else being detained by police at 3am and then barking at the police dog is utterly moronic (as noted above). He's definitely on strike 3 at this point; Muschamp will have to shitcan him if there is another incident.

Dont fvck with expensive animals with specialized training. Fuck that. I read this earlier. Evidently this dog was in the back of the car with the windows down and was barking at people who walked by. If he was poking it with a stick, I would agree with you. Arresting someone for doing something stupid like barking at a dog is WAY more stupid than barking at a dog. I'm going to use this line again. If the government has so much money that they can afford to arrest people for bullshit like this, we pay too much in taxes. Tell the dumbass to leave the dog alone and move on. Arresting him is being an asshole. |

Yeah, this seems like a bit over the top to arrest a guy for barking at a dog that is barking at him. I could see myself doing the same thing, to be honest, as a way to point out to the owner of said dog that I don't much care for their dog creating a racket. Also, the "resisting arrest" charge seems like a bit of added bullshit........but I usually think that when I see "disturbing the peace, disorderly, resisting, or other stupid shit tacked onto a rather weak arrest............unless the cop got into a squabble that he didn't start (you know, the "tune up" type thing).......if the only "resisting" that happened was a "what the fuck are you doing this for?" being posed to the cop, I'd say bullshit. Now, NFL guys are a bit.......different.......so who knows, it could be valid.......but I still usually think that "resisting arrest, etc" gets charged a lot more than it really should. |

Instead of the NFL, guy's going to have a career in roofing.
5 yard penalty for ruffing the cop. Police man just could have told him to setter down and be on his way. |

First ammendment argument yet?
If the k9 is an officer for legal purposes, shouldn't you be able to say what you want to it? |

On the surface, sounds like a bad arrest to me. |

Florida? Go figure
If a player did that here it would be the end of his career here. |

Not that I side with the cops often but in this case, as the article states, the cops attention was diverted from his investigation to deal with some dumb fuck barking jock. Obviously the fuckwit interfered with an investigation. The idiot got what he deserved.

Hmmmm. If I had heard an SEC player had barked at a police dog, I would have expected it to be...wait for it...Barkevious Mingo.
<rimshot> Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week. |

We shouldn't be arresting people for anything and everything. Can you be arrested for interfering with an investigation of you have an accident that causes a cop to divert his attention from the ticket he is writing? If diverting an officer's attention is a legitimate charge, which I'm sure it is, it shouldn't be used in frivolous instances. It is like DAs charging people with using weapons of mass destruction when they use a bomb. That isn't what a weapon of mass destruction is. That is just a bomb and this was just some jackass barking like a dog. |

Unless they can prove he threatened the K-9, it seems like freedom of speech to me.

barking at a k9....really.
cop shoots normal dog = got home safe. guy talks to k9 in its native tongue = jail The first charge is so weak the resisting will get dropped with the first. |
