CHICAGO --- The first blood test to diagnose major depression in adults has been developed by Northwestern Medicine® scientists, a breakthrough approach that provides the first objective, scientific diagnosis for depression. The test identifies depression by measuring the levels of nine RNA blood markers. RNA molecules are the messengers that interpret the DNA genetic code and carry out its instructions. Good read. Thanks for sharing.
Hopefully, the next step will be to develop a better antidepressant than Paxil, Zoloft, Prozac and other SSRI's. |

How many SS 'disability' recipients are getting worried? You can get SS Disability from being depressed? Today I'll bet one could get it for having a hangnail. If one is on 'disability' one isn't unemployed. |

So now depression can be diagnosed with a genetics test?
Interesting. |

The only thing I can hope for is that it leads to better, more effectively treatments, and lessening the social stigma attached.

We tested your blood, don't bother denying it, you're depressed.
Turn in your guns. |

Amazing but not at all surprising. I can draw a family-tree from my great-grandmother down to my generation and every single person is diagnosable with some type of mental disorder. I've been convinced for decades that there is a biological basis for many mental health disorders and it's often passed genetically.

Extremely common for there to be a genetic link with mental illnesses. When I took heredity and human reproduction in college, one of the classic examples used for genetic traits being passed down from generation to generation was mental illness in one of the European royal lines. |

Interesting. A hundred years ago, people believed that character was part of the bloodline. This idea was dismissed by modern medicine. If this research proves correct, it suggests otherwise. The implications are remarkable. Mental illness is still a mystery.
This requires several repeat experiments to verify the results. The obvious flaw is the selection of patients for the experimental group. Selection is subjective, based on the patient's statements describing himself and the doctor's judgement about the patient. This is kind of nasty, but I can think of one way to make the selection of depressed patients more objective. You'd need blood tests from suicides who left messages that explained their motiviation. |

Check the microscope for yourself, you can clearly see the depression blood cell indicators:
Oh , and I think you should be aware of another indicator we found on your blood cells: |

What if you don't "suffer" from your depression?
I think they need to run some blood tests for those who are breeding welfare recipients and see if they can't figure out that leading indicator. I bet I get in trouble for that one. Some way and some how. Then again I don't suffer from paranoia, I enjoy thinking of new ways that they are after me. |

I might be cynical but something tells me this will be used to sell even more anti-depressants to people who don't really need them.

Thanks for posting the link! I would love to get tested to see where I fall. I also wonder if they are differentiating major depressive episodes from dysthymia, which is what I suffer from. |

Just great. The next thing you know it'll be on a form 4473. I wonder if the dealer will have to draw blood for a test before completing the transaction. This is why I always drink copious amounts of beer when I go to my gun dealer's house. To fool any potential blood tests. |
