HOT DOG! $19 TUBE STEAKS By BRADEN KEIL May 21, 2003 -- NOW that we've survived the burger wars, it was only a matter of time before the lowly hot dog jumped into the fray. Enter the $19 frankfurter, a 12-inch-long, 2-inch-wide wienie filled with costly Kobe beef and a variety of spices that's being served up at the Old Homestead, the same Meatpacking District steakhouse that introduced the decadent $41 Kobe burger earlier this year. "We only made 60 on the first day and we sold out in the first hour," claims Old Homestead owner Marc Sherry. "We're now doing them on a reservation-only basis and demand is getting hot." As in dog, we suppose. The restaurant, which will also serve the lofty link to its Atlantic City clientele when a branch of the eatery opens in the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa this summer, serves the encased cow on a homemade baked brioche bun with a white truffle mustard. If the fancy mustard doesn't cut it, there is a choice of special toppings including Kobe beef chili, Vidalia onion and bell peppers and a Cheshire cheddar sauce. "We couldn't just use Cheez Whiz on it," says Sherry.

I thought this thread was going to be about food prices at DISNEY WORLD.......What a rip off. I couldn't enjoy the place because of the entry fee, let along the raping they give on food prices. They ought to have complimentary Vasoline packets at the GATE......

The burger was good, but the waiter talked me out of making it a cheeseburger. A decision I rue to this day. Kobe? Whatever. Just a good burger, not worth $40. Im looking foward to trying the hotdog anyway. (If youre at the Homestead, get the prime rib.)

It's good, but I really don't see the point in making it into a burger or a hot dog. They won't let you put Cheez Whiz on it, but they'll turn Kobe beef into ground meat? There's a logic disconnect there. Besides, any prick that tells me what I can't put on my food in a restaurant is likely to get a fork in the neck for his trouble. Remember the Alamo, and God Bless Texas...

It's a breed of cattle from Japan. In Japan they have special diet and receive a massage daily where the guy spits Sake on the cattle.

Only a fool would pay $19 for a hot dog in NYC. I'd understand if you were out west, where they might be hard to come by (I would have paid $19 for a decent slice of pizza, in Hawaii). But in NYC? The best hot dogs on Earth.... Period. Katz's has a decent dog, too. But Nathan's, ON THE BOARDWALK IN CONEY ISLAND- is the best.

what's the big deal, I've had $100 hamburgers a few times. although the price of the burger does include the avgas needed to fly wherever the burgers are.
