two tabs open sucking down 174K worth of RAM, and that's after applying the "tweak" that you are referring to a day ago.

Dude, that's 174MEG of RAM (174,000K).
For how much Firefox "is totally teh awesome!!!11!" it's hillarious how many people post "fixes" for stupid things, like making web pages show up and not sucking all your RAM.

Well most of us have over a gig of Ram so its a non issue. For folks with less Ram, I would suggest buying more memory before going back to IE.
ETA, the "fix" didnt really do much for me either.
Anyone try uninstalling the flash plug in, Allegedly that works.
I am going to try the 1.5 beta to see what happens.
ETA again 1.5 dont seem to get it squared away. Actually with the "fix" you could minimize all the windows and it would free up them mem and start its trek back up. But at least you could clear the mem. With 1.5 you cant.

It is not to big a problem on my desktops that have 1GB and more ram but I have a laptop that is max out at 384MB ram and the Firefox memory leak is killing me.
So I think I have found a solution… Opera.
I had played around with Opera on and off for years… I downloaded the latest version of Opera for free a couple of weeks ago and just kinda of played with it until Thursday.
Now that I have been using it on that laptop for the last couple of days and have come to the conclusion Opera is now simply put a better browser than Firefox.
Opera is faster, has tabs, bocks pops-ups and spyware at least as well as Firefox, easy to use, and is not dragging my laptop to it knees.
I think I am going to dump Firefox completely.
