I need ideas on content. Maybe some pics of firearms too.

Goatboy. How can I link to this site?

What I would like to do is have a personal page about me cause I'm very vain. Then have a firearms page that talks about my favorite firearms like the Glock and the AR and the HK91 and MP5's. Also a jokes page. that one can dnload funny vids or wave files.

Any other ideas? I have a 100MB of space. Will use 75MB for the webpage and 25MB for personal storage.

Got tons of pics and vids to upload for content. 5MB will only cover pics I think Unless I use another server and link to that instead. The vids will probably 20-30MB.

Anyways, shoot me an E-mail GB. I'd like to put a link to this site and use the logo.

Thanx.

Do you have a maximum traffic allotment?

100megs of space?  My god!   That's quite a lot actually.   If you were doing loads of pictures and just the text I couldn't see going much over 2-3 megs, with 100megs you could put a ton of video footage up if you wanted to so long as you aren't capped with respects to maximum file size you can upload to the site.

My 5 meg limit on my web page sorta squashes my ability to upload MPEG footage and it really limits me to only 1 or 2 short clips running a lot of compression due to the remaining 1.5-2 megs free space that are on my page currently.

That's where people generally hit the web page barriers quickest, with audio and video files.

Have you got much experience writing webpage HTML lines?   It's hardly difficult, a lot of it can be learned by simply finding the pages you like most and then viewing the source format for the page and seeing how it's written.   Some people write their pages and organize them better than others which can make it either more difficult or much easier to determine which lines are responsible for doing what.

I have 6 Free email addresses and webpages on my worldnet.att.net account. I have one webpage used up @ 10 MB, it has around 40 some photo's with captions. The photo's will definetly take up space fast. Each of my webpages is 10 MB. Havn't got around to figuring what to put in the others since I'm such a shallow person.

2MB bandwidth.
I went with 100MB cause I wanted to use some of the space as storage, and also for posting crap on the boards. I have 10MB file size limit. Using MS FrontPage to set it up. Currently, I just set up a draft page using their software just to see. I will be working on it next weekend.
You guys can check out the rough draft here www.lordtrader.50megs.com
100MB and 2MB bandwidth is costing me $8.50 a month. I think it worth it for the storage aspect and also since I am looking for a job its easier for resume sending purposes. I am gonna set-up a separate URL for my resume and a sorta brag web page to send to firms

LordTrader:

Looks like you're of to a good start.

I scanned all my photo's as they all were shot 65-69. If you are really going to get into this, a good digital camera and scanner is a plus. I guess I need to get off the stick and think of something for my other webpages.

The easiest way to put up a good website is to steal someone else's.[@:D]  Go to a site that you like, then go to "View", then "Source".  Copy all the html to your clipboard, then you're ready to rock.

Yeah, gonna do some serious scannin this weekend. I have some pics of my mom and dad on a cruise ship. Pretty cool stuff. Pisses off my mom though. I found these in the trash one day when I was very young. Dad was in the hot tub with a couple of hotties. Mom nowhere in the shot. Dad claims mom was taking the pic. Circa 1950's. Every time I got in trouble I would bring this pic up and they would argue. I get away scott-free LOL

Ok I worked on it a bit more. Let me know what you guys think.

I have some humorous vids and various jokes and such, but I haven't quite figured out how to post em yet. So far with all that I have on there I am only using 3.5MB For the page. But I have 10MB of content still waiting to be posted. I just gotta figure out how.

Let me know what you guys think.

Lookin good, but where's the warez? Great photos, but they take a while to load. I read a HTML book once upon a time that said to keep jpeg files as small as possible so they load fast. You can usually get your thumbnail photos down to 2-3K so at least your photo selection page will load fast.

Here's a link to a web hosting company with better service than 50 megs. They'll throw in your own URL, like lordtrader.com, for 99 cents.  Many packages to choose from: http://aplushosting.com/english/products.phtml

Well still working on the thumbnails and porn. Still trying to figure how to link and stuff. Got the ftp download this down pat.

Will be getting it all finalized next weekend. I should be good to go by then.

Well, since you asked for critism in a public forum - here it comes!  [:P]

Sorry, LT, but your Photos page is absolutely horrible!!

http://www.lordtrader.50megs.com/photo.html

I don't mean content, but rather, coding.

Instead of thumbnails, you're using the full sized images, but forcing them smaller with the "width" and "height" HTML tags.  That means all 30 images, several megabytes and many minutes later, have to load on the first page!!  So painfully slow that it makes AR15.com seem supersonic in comparison!!!  It was sooooooooo excruciating that I finally had to hit the STOP button and close the browser window because it was consuming bandwidth, thrashing cashe, and basically bringing everything else to a screeching halt!!

Instead, why don't you create properly sized thumbnails and link to them with the "a href=" tag?  It will make it lightyears faster to load and navigate, and create a much better browsing experience.

Cool thanx, Steel Rat. I will work on that. That's seem to be the page I am having the hardest to get up and running. Guess that's why most sites have 2 sizes when they upload pics huh?

Yup!  Just use your favorite image editing software (if you've seen the "Mattel M16" or "Gay Boy Scout" threads you can tell I like Photoshop) and reduce the images to a managable size like 60 x ?? pixels and use *those* in the photo.html page, then link them to the full sized images.

I know I ranted and raved, but it's actually an extremely common mistake.  Besides, when you're looking at the page on your own computer, everything pops up fast.  So then after you "publish" or upload the files, it's hard to understand why everything screeches to a halt - especially over a dial-up.

I know getting your first page going is tough - I'm still a Junior Hacker when it comes to HTML myself.  Only thing I can say is keep plugging away and things will fall into place.

Oh, yeah - steal everything you can off of other pages.  Saves tons of time in layout and coding!! [:P]

Lieutenant LT (I couldn't resist), do yourself a favor while you've got free time between jobs and read a book on HTML. It really is simple. Using programs like MS Frontpage just keeps you in the dark. Kinda like going through life in a foreign country and needing a translator everywhere you go. You never know what is really being said. Creating links to other web sites is the same as creating links within your own site. In other words, like a thumbnail photo being linked to a full size blowup.

Just did that. Used paintbrush to reduce pic by 90% of its original size. Hopefully that helps.

HEHEH, Did not make full Lieutenant yet. Only Ltjg. But it sounds good thanx. [:)]
I guess learning HTML wouldn't hurt. I'll get the sight up and running for now with FrontPage and then get an HTML for dummies book and update it as I learn more.

Thanx guys.
