Most of those who know me already know this. but to make sure it doesn't slip thru the cracks.  I am going inot the hospital on Tuesday for surgery on some bad joints iin my neck.  One too many auto accidents..
To make a long story short, the doc is going to fuse the C5-C6 neck joint, removing the cartilage, inserting bone in its place, and covering it with a titanium plate.  Not too complex, and none too soon.  Those who have had disc injuries know of the pain associated with such injuries, and how debiliting it is.  I am tired of the limitations on my life, tired of the pain, and tired of having to live on narcotics.  Believe me the frustration level is at times overwhelming.  The possibility of benefit greatly outweighs the risk.  I dont like docs, hate hospitals, and dont much like the idea of having my head halfway cut loose, but it will be worth it if the pain is mitigated.  If all goes well, i should be home by Friday and capable of limited activity.  I'll check in.
Thanks in advance for all of your support, in the last year this board has become my favorite place to hang out, like the gun club used to be. You folks have helped me far more than you will ever know.

Good luck, I've had a fusion, no fun, but mine was in lower back, had to use a walker for six months, missed 1 1/2 years work. Like I said, good luck.

I can't relate to spinal injuries (although I can tell you a story or two about beer, snowmobiles and dislocated hips..) but me & mine will keep you in our prayers.  Godspeed in your recovery.

Definitely bust your butt in therapy afterwards.  My wife is a physical therapist and believe me, they can work wonders in getting people back to normal.  Best wishes and good luck!

I had it done 12/17/02 after WTC injury. 2 discs removed the fusion and plates. Hope yours goes has smooth has mine did. The only problem is the loss of movement, which I didn't have anyway because it hurt too much to move. Hard to swallow until about a week ago. Still food gets stuck in my throat if not careful. Send me a message if you want any info Ill send you my Phone number if you want. Best of Luck also take it easy, wear the collar after make sure it fits right. If it doesn't let the Hospital know before you leave. Don 't make any sudden movements.  It takes up to 6 months for the bone to fuse so be careful

Good luck, paspecops...

And don't get the morphine if you can help it, it'll make you sick to your stomach.  Ask for demerol, just as good, but no need to yak.
