Since there isn't a dedicated thread yet(!)....
Release date is November 29th. I'm super excited for this game - especially after the major letdown that was FF13. "Enroute to wed his fiancée Luna on a road trip with his best friends, Prince Noctis is advised by news reports that his homeland has been invaded and taken over under the false pretense of a peace treaty – and that he, his loved one and his father King Regis, have been slain at the hands of the enemy. To gather the strength needed to uncover the truth and reclaim his homeland, Noctis and his loyal companions must overcome a series of challenges in a spectacular open world - that is filled with larger-than-life creatures, amazing wonders, diverse cultures and treacherous foes." After a decade plus in the making, I sure hope it's good. I just wish they would start releasing them in PC at launch, instead of giving us crappy ports a few years later. Still,I'm glad I kept my PS4 for this one.

from the gameplay video it looks like they've gotten rid of the turn-based battle system.
the clueless gamer segment was funny though. ...i think the fractured but whole will get my video game money in the near term... ffxv can wait for a steam summer sale =) |
|
I'm looking forward to it... but...
You didn't like FF13? I admit that 13-2 wasn't great, but I enjoyed the first one and lightning returns... |

I didn't mind FF12 too much (the Ivalice tie-ins helped; FF Tactics and Vagrant Story are two of my all-time favorites), though I didn't like the main character. I thought 13 was a mess. I never got in to the story, didn't like the battle system, and after playing ~22 hours, I quit. Apparently, I never finished the "tutorial" portion of the game. |

I played the demo too. It's a huge change for the series but it was a really fun system that still had some depth. I've been a huge fan since VII so I'll be picking this up for sure.

Played 1-10 ( beat 1-7 ), about an hour of 12, and the failure of a game, Dirge. As SE went farther and farther away from what the original was like, the more and more I hated the series. The change in graphics look great, but the change in game play, not so much.

FF, Lunar 1 and 2, chrono-trigger, Xenosaga, etc... I understand the sentiment completely, but agree with PancakeOfDoom. The old days are gone, and Square won't be making any main FF titles with turn-based combat anymore. I guess it comes down to what you play these kind of games for. For me, it's always about the story first. Obviously the gameplay is important, too, but I've played a lot of subpar RPGs because they had good stories. Everything so far points to FF15 being an all-around great game with a deep combat system. Have you tried the demo? You might not mind the new combat system, and "real-time" or "action RPG" doesn't necessarily mean "hack and slash". |

Thisx1000 Stitches, the old FF games are on iphone/android too, don't know if you saw that. Also, I got a Nintendo 3ds specifically because there are so many FF style games from the Japanese market since they're still very popular over there, might be worth looking into. |

I know hack and slash is broad, but I'd put it more in the realm of diablo hack and slash and not like gauntlet or dynasty warrior. It's simple but there is depth to it. I'm hoping at release they have some of the old ones on sale, I wouldn't mind replaying VII again. |

FF7 Remake is coming for PS4 someday - Amazon currently has Dec 29, 2017 for the release date. Though the remake is going to use a similar battle system to FFXV. I'd love to see remakes of the Square classics (Chrono Trigger, FF IV, V, VI, Tactics, etc.) where the only thing they do is update the graphics. |
|
I would love to see a remake of Final Fantasy VIII with new graphics and voice actors, while retaining the original combat system.

The last FF I played from end to end was FF VIII, and I really enjoyed that one, despite its issues.
That said, I hope this one is good. It looks pretty cool at least. |

I generally hate preordering games but I have yet to be disappointed in spending money on any FF game. I've liked some much more than others but I've always at least got my money's worth. Anyways, for the 5 of you that still don't know somehow, don't forgot you get 20% off by preordering through amazon
edit: 20% is only for prime members |

My characters are level 9 right now. Going pretty much blind into this game, I'm very impressed with it. I haven't tried the "wait" combat mode yet but I'm enjoying the active mode; reminds me of Witcher 3. |

It isn't as fluid but it brings more classic final fantasy to the table as far as planning your actions out. Extremely impressed so far. Sure, there are some things I wish were better, but I was nervous it wouldn't feel like final fantasy, absolutely delivering there. The only thing I'm already not looking forward to is when it's over, also I'm mentally preparing for a FF VII Aerith moment. |

I played 2.5 hrs today. Love it so far. I haven't tried the wait mode yet.
One of my favorite things is listening to the old FF game soundtracks while driving around; it's a nice touch. |

It's weird. I care more about this cast of characters than most other games. If an ally falls I do everything I can to help them up.
The animations in this are amazing. The link attacks are fantastic. Combat is kind of a mystery to me. I'm not sure how it works entirely. I get the block and dodge mechanics but the general weapon swinging seems random. Some of the time I can get these really cool aerial combos and then switch to the spear for a big dragoon esque stab. The pictures are great. It is really nice seeing the characters. The general world movements the other characters do is great. They'll drop stuff, Prompto will take pictures, etc. The dungeons are fucking cool. The way the characters move in them is great and is very immersive. My only complaint is the music... I don't know if I've heard a single song from this game? I can't recall what the combat music is like. I'm not playing with high volume, though. I'm hooked. Love it. |

Well that was a let down... (first chocobo quest)
Click To View Spoiler All that buildup to kill that behemoth Deadeye, and I killed him in two hits I'm not sure if it was supposed to be that easy. I saw the fire crystals outside of his lair so I assumed I should probably make a nice fire spell. I made a fire spell that chains 4 times with only a potency of 50ish. Hit him with it and one of the exploding barrels as soon as he jumped down, and he instantly went down 50% health. I ran around for a few seconds until the spell was ready again, then hit him again next to a second barrel. Boom! He's dead. All that buildup and creeping around trying not to get eaten by him, for a 30 second fight. |

I know that with the two handed swords I can get a build up attack by holding back but that's the only thing that's consistent. |
