  Ladies & gents, if you could take a few minutes to make a call or drop an email to your law makers, we could use your support.  In short, Federal Bureau of Prisons Staff are law enforcement, and are permitted to carry under LEOSA 2010.  The bureau would prefer we didn't for various reasons.  To that end, the bureau has 'policied' us into being unable to carry to & from work.  Once we come on the property for our shift, there's no way for us to store the off duty weapon that complies with policy.  Take a minute to support this newly introduced bill, please?

I will call. Another example of Executive Branch malfeasance. A real president would WANT every uniformed cop (including guards) in the land to have their piece with them.

Thanks for the link! The thing that kills me with BOP is if you are assigned to the Federal Prison in Puerto Rico you can carry to and from work and BOP has secure gun lockers at their front entrance, and it's been that way for years. Anywhere else they don't want to allow it. They trust you enough to issue you a Government firearm but just not your own to and from work. WTF!  If it's good enough for one instituion than it's good enough for all the institutions!

As a side note, anyone from Oregon, there is a similar issue in the Oregon State Legislature.  Hopefully it should be out of the House Judiciary Committee soon.

We had an Officer murdered a little over a year ago on his way to work in Eastern Oregon.  He was also a volunteer firefighter and pulled over to help a "stranded motorist"
that stabbed him to death.

We have the same situation here in DE. Our dept is permitted to carry under LEOSA but we are not authorized to have personal weapons on state property. There are not enough gun lockers for everyone to lock up a personal weapon and they cannot be locked in our vehicles either. Our prison is located in the middle of a city, where 75% of our clientele is from, some of them just a block or two away. There have been several occasions where people have done drive by shootings at the building, where the staff parking lot is at the front of. We have also had former inmates show up after release and harass staff leaving the building after their shift. But we don't need to carry to or from work,..

I was just going to post this. Sure makes you rethink your commute and weather or not you'll stop and help.
