mine was supposed to be here at 1030 AM (priority overnight). Well, now its 8pm and its been in Portland since 2 pm. Do you think they'll push on and work into the night to make up lost time?

Probably either going to clean it up and shoot it or else have it chome plated with mother-of-pearl- stock and handguards installed.

Well, I think she's pretty.
Garands have a certain air abut them. Even if you dropped the thing in a bucket of tar, buried it for six months, dug her up and washed her off with dog piss, I'd still think it's pretty.

Not pretty? That gun is a damn work of art! Wrap your hand around history! Feel it! Smell it! There it is.

IIRC, the G3 on the hang tag denotes rack grade. That's a nice looking HRA stock on that rifle.

Nice Catch!

It's a Greek Service Grade.

The receiver is a Springfield, the doohicky that covers the clip thingy is H&R, that's as far as I got.

I feel a steep Garand learning curve coming up. I have a case of CMP Lake City ammo coming.
Is one CLIP enough?

You need piles of CLIPS.

Doo hicky that covers the clip thingy?  Do you mean the bolt or the trigger housing?  It looks like you got an HRA stock judging by the back porch and non-serifed proof P.  Is the lower band milled or stamped?

G3=Service Grade

I know next to nothing about Garands except that I have wanted one for a long time.
Now that I have the money I have one.

Like I said, I am in for a steep Garand learning curve.

I want to get a Garand, get it rebarreled, new wood and reparked to make it look like a new/old gun.

Thanks RedLeg.
I pulled it apart yesterday to check it out before I went shooting.
It's a neat gun indeed!

Everything is stamped with H&R except the receiver.
So I guess I have a H&R&S.

I am going to have to get a receiver and build me one.

I had to send back a STAMPED page 2A. That slowed me down by a week. I got confirmation friday that my paperwork was recieved. I hope mine comes that soon. I have wanted one for years, but finally got the package together.

That stock will clean up very nicely. The good people at Culivers (see above) can steer you in the right direction. With a little elbow grease that grand old lady will be your favorite soon enough.

Buy Scott Duff's Garand book. Now. It's not an option. You now own one of the best designed coolest tools ever produced. She needs to be treated correctly and Duff has most of the good stuff all in one place. She won't ask for much and if you give her what she needs she will last forever.
