After we lost our last generation of dogs,(we showed and bred Alaskan Malamutes for 20 years), I was reluctant to have any more dogs, because of the reoccurring loss.
I sincerely wish dogs had a much longer life span.
But as it turned out, after 3 years without a dog, my brother ran into a guy who had taken a couple of mixed breed males, as small puppies (Alaskan Malamute and Rotweiller).
When the pups hit about 5 or 6 months, they started fighting, so the guy took one the dogs to his part time work, a small auto shop that catered to business vehicles.
The dog was abused there and after almost 6 months was a real mess. So the guy was looking to place him in a permanent home.
We took him, and after 5 years, he's become one of my all-time favorites.
He's quite striking at 135 pounds and standing 28 1/2" at the shoulders. Extremely friendly to people, and flat-out deadly to other animals.
I walked into the living room one late afternoon to find a friend's 4 year old daughter alone with Rock. She was laying on the floor next to Rock, reaching out her hand to take the pig's ear Rock was chewing on, out of his mouth. My heart just about stopped. But Rock didn't even growl as she pulled her hand back, holding the pig ear.
Even though Rock proved trustworthy, I still had words with my brother for migrating out to the garage with his friends (including the girl's father) and leaving her alone with the dog in the house. This was the first time she had met him. Not something I'll allow to repeat, even though nothing happened.

I need to post a pic of my new shelter puppy. Mom was a german shepard and he looks like he prolly has some bull terrier in him on the dad's side. Beautiful brindle color.

Got this guy a couple of weeks ago, father is a 170 pound rottie, mother a pit bull/lab mix.

A wonderful puppy, agressive, yet eager to please, and train/work.

Yup, those are little puffy clouds alright. The previous occupant was a 13 year old girl. I didn't quite get around redecorating this room yet. The fou-fou furniture and the dolls are gone, though. ...This is my story and I'm sticking to it.

bulldog1967..

thanks.  i am a single guy that lives alone.  i have a small back yard and i am away from home 12 hrs a day which leaves 5 hrs i can spend with a dog.  with everything else i have to do i may only get to spend 2-3 hrs with the animal every day.  i don't think it's fair to it to leave it locked up in the back yard all day long.  they are really cool but i just don't want to put a dog in that situation.

thanks.

Damnit, I KNOW we have clone dogs.

Most rotts I know are wannabe lap dogs--which when the dog is 85+ pounds...isn't a good idea.  So one day I'm at the dog park, and tying my shoe, and a rott walks over assuming i'm waiting for a dog to sit on my lap.  So he bumps me, I kinda fall back, and he walks on and sits on me.  Damn thing weighed 110 pounds, slobbered, and had bad breath.  And wouldn't get off.

LOL  One of my mom's cats would eat that Chihuahua!

Fear the awesome girth that is Fred:

He is almost 20 pounds exactly.

If a burglar fell asleep in our house,  Fred might attack and kill him.  By either smothering him or by laying on his chest so he couldn't breathe.

Oh and we used to have a black lab when I was younger.  Her name was Pepper, and she weighed around 120#.  Liked to chew on 2x4s and snap aircraft cable when she was on that instead of a big kennel we later built.  Sorry but no digital pics of her.  We had to put her down around '94.  :(

She would also attack anybody with the tail and tongue.

Hey, I love dogs.  Always have.  However, if your dog attacks someone, you're in deep shit.  Remember the gal that was mauled and killed in the hallway of her San Franciso Apt house?  This shit does happen.  If your animal snaps, like humans do, you're responsible.  You want to buy an attack dog?  You better make sure you are in control of that animal.  If that animal snaps, you are the one going up the river...
