Nike is the only shoe brand that fits my foot right.  I have a wide forefoot and a narrow heel and Nike 11.5 4E is the only running shoe that fits me.

What kind of athletic shoe?

I hate to say this after last night's asshattery but Vibram 5 Fingers.  Yea, they look, well, you know, but they are the best minimalist shoe IMO.

As a 2nd choice:  INOV8 & Merrell.

Brooks for running. At least for me, YMMV.

Killer is right...what kind of athletic shoe?  This is important because it does affect my answer.

My favorite is over all is a running shoe, Saucony Powergrid Triumph 9.  I'm a mid striker and have no need for a post.

However, my running shoes would not be my shoe of choice for doing aerobics, playing basketball or playing volleyball.

Adidas

Whether it is for lounging, rugby, soccer, running or whatever, I always rely on Adidas.

I did go to Diadora for two seasons and a particular pair of cleats were the best shoes I ever had (carbon fiber, ultra light, excellent control/feel).  They discontinued the model and I never went back to them.

Running?  Brooks Adrenaline.  Was actually just debating whether I should go with the 13s or get another pair of 11s.
