Found a tiny chicken fetus in one of my eggs this morning, egg still tasted fine. Anyone else ever have this surprise? Guess its one of the risks i take for tasty tasty eggs.

Get bloody yolks here and there with the eggs we get.
Soooo damn yummy compared to store bought. |
|
"Eggs" come from a farm down the street, cooler by the curb and a box to leave the money. AMAZING eggs. I feel sorry for people stuck with the pale imitations in supermarkets.

I occasionally get a double yolk. I buy a lottery ticket on those days.

How does the taste differ?
(Edit, after seeing that pic above ....gross ) |

Fresh farm eggs are delicious. We used to eat them all the time growing up. They were brown and had feathers on them, but they were sure good.

I don't have access to farm fresh eggs, but I buy the organic cage-free ones. How are those comparable? I think they're better tasting than normal eggs...

I haven't bought eggs in over a year. Since I don't have a rooster I don't have to worry about my eggs.

Where are you guys getting your eggs? They shouldn't be fertilized; that is what candling is all about.

A guy I knew in High School refused to eat eggs, he used to say " You're eating a chicken abortion! "
( He wasn't religious at all, eggs just grossed him out ) |

one day I took my son into IHOP to get some breakfast. when the waitress asked him what he wanted to eat, he looked at her and with a straight face said "I wish to eat the unborn"
slowly I shook my head and said "eggs. my son would like some eggs" eta: I don't actually have a son. just a joke I heard a long time ago Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

I really, really wish I liked eggs.... They always just smelled too much like smelly sulfur farts to me I'm being serious, since everyone in my family loves them and they seem to be a good source of protein and also a good source of food you can raise yourself.

A long time ago we had a farmer that would drop by our business once a week to deliver fresh eggs. That was a long time ago, farmer's dead, business is long gone...

I'm having images of a hundred workers on egg hunts every morning, in order to fill grocery store shelves. It means the birds were kept in a large indoor confine, where a couple hundred ran around in each others shit and saw dust or straw, while bieng fed Organic cracked grain. Hardly much difference from conventional, because of diet. The richer flavors and colors, come from a diverse diet. Bugs, worms, baby mice, oddball grains and vegetation. The stuff that is found around a farm yard, when chickens are allowed out in the morning, and put back up in the coop in the evening, and forced to forage, with only a little scratch feed provided. It's not exactly good for reliable production, or volume, but the quality advantages are there in spades. Hit small Farmers markets on the outskirts. |
|
Our chickens are only fed scratch and what they can find around the house foraging for stuff to eat. The eggs are 100 times better tasting than store eggs. We let our chickens run loose in the front and back yards. best thing for them and your eggs. No rooster here so no worries about fertilized eggs. Plus they're entertaining to watch lol. Besides, when they stop laying eggs........... snap! and then we have chicken for dinner! Ours are rhode island reds and golden sexlinks which lay brown eggs btw.

Grew up eating eggs from our grandparents coop. They raised enough to sell or trade some.
Anyone who's never had for breakfast eggs that are still warm, just had the shit and feathers rinsed off... you've never had a real egg. I miss those terribly.. |

How does the taste differ? If you let your farm fresh eggs sit in a refrigerator for several weeks, then they'd probably taste the same as store-bought. Nah. It's the diet of the chicken. Store bought eggs come from chickens with the cheapest diet they can find. Farm eggs usually come from chickens who are allowed to scratch, so they're getting bugs and worms and all kinds of other stuff. There can be a noticeable difference in flavor between the two. As said, if you're concerned with a blood spot, don't keep a rooster. If someone is selling eggs it's not wise for them to keep a rooster cause some folks would get pretty pissed to find an embryo. Now, blood spots CAN happen, even in isolated hens but it's rare. I always kept one rooster per about 10 hens. They keep the order and help protect the flock, if it's a good rooster. If not, he goes well with dumplings. |
