That should camoflauge it quite well against its normal tarmac backdrop.

Yea because we operate ina  contested air environment where blending in with the ground from someone looking down at you from above happens all the time.

Even Apaches are getting the sky grey hues for camo.

Still looks cool.

What a coincidence, I've sat in that exact F18's cockpit!

Me with the thumbs up.

When I went to the Miramar airshow this year the Marines had a F-18 with gray/black MARPAT. Funny as hell.

I like the paint color that they are painting Ospreys with. It’s some sort of super ass expensive paint that helps absorb radar. They should paint everything that color.

www.spacemodel.com/apgimages/f14-photo-vx4-04l.jpg

Yup. It is clearly stated in NAVAIR that you are limited to squadron markings, such as call signs (the tail letters), the actual unit name (such as VMA-223) and a small unit identifier.
HOWEVER, they will usually overlook the painting of one aircraft  (usually 00 or 01) as a 'squardron bird'.

Back when the 14 the ARDunsan was painted, they didn't have the highspeed IR and radar absorbing paints that they now use, hence the new rules on aircraft modexing. THe new paint is an epoxy polimyde paint, and right before that was a polyurethane paint.
