The wife is looking for a SUV right now and may have settled on the FX35.  Considering that we had been looking at the more maintenance intensive German brands I am personally ecstatic.  Does anyone on the board have any person experience with the Infiniti brand and the FX35 in particular.

Sadly, I can't talk her into the FX50 as she sees no need for the extra power.

BMW has no cost maintenance for 50,000 miles.................how long will it take her to rack up 50K miles???

Probably should point out that the closest BMW and Audi dealerships are 130 miles away.  The Infiniti dealer is even farther, but I think I am more comfortable with the brand given the distance to service.

Certainly not the most elegant or attractive of luxury crossovers.  The styling is going to look dated in 5 years.

What about a Lexus RX or loaded Highlander or Pilot?

Stick with a Toyota Highlander or 4-Runner. Nothing wrong with the FX but when stuff breaks, they're not cheap to work on not to mention the back cargo area is pretty much worthless for anything more than groceries. Also, price our tired for the 20" wheels.

I thought about buying one when my family 'needed' a SUV, they drive pretty nice for a SUV but it has almost no off-road ability. They drive pretty rough for the average 'soccor mom' so make sure your wife drives it for more than a few mins before you Fo.

I've got a 2003 FX35 that I bought new right after Infiniti came out with them.  It's been a great vehicle that has been nothing but a blast to drive.  It's got just over a 100K miles on it now and has never really had any problems.  I was about to get another one a couple of years ago when the economy went to hell, so I'm just hanging on to the paid-off one for now.  It still runs & looks great, so that's not problem.

I had a BMW X5 before the Infiniti and couldn't wait to get rid of it.  In the 36-months I had there was always something wrong with it.  Yes, it was covered by the warranty, but it was a pain in the ass to deal with the BMW dealership.  With Infiniti, you just have to show up, drop your car off and drive away in your nice loaner car.  Infiniti's have such a good maintenance record that you really never have a problem getting your car serviced promptly and returned to you in perfect order.

I would highly recommend getting one.

Rogue = C Platform
FX SUV = FM Platform

It would be more accurate to say it is a "cool rebadged 370Z/G35".

The EX35 is the rebadged Rogue, not the FX35.  The Nissan Murano is similar, but not the same as the FX35.  The Murano is front wheel drive and the FX35 is rear wheel drive for instance.  They both can have AWD capability though.

My mom loves hers. She switched to it from a BMW X5 due to reliability issues. It's not quite as fun to drive as the X5, but not bad at all. She hasn't had a single problem with it that wasn't caused by the accident she was in (FX did admirably in the safety department, as well. car that hit her was in pieces, the FX needed a new wheel and quarter panel and that's about it).

I had a 2005 Infiniti G35 up until Aug 2010.  No problems whatsoever.  The G series cars and the FX series cars share the same engine and transmission.  My dad has an 2006 Infiniti M35(same engine/transmission) and has also had zero problems.  My sister has a 2008 G37(slightly updated engine/transmission but pretty much the same) and has had zero problems.  See where I'm going with this...

I owned an 04 FX45 it was a good car with the exception of a motor rattle and weird smoking at 30k miles. Only on cold start ups and would generally go away after a few restarts. Your getting another engine so it should be a good car. They are fun to drive, has a cockpit feeling.

Agree with this. I'm an Audi guy and the Q5 gets great reviews from the car enthusiast rags, but I also accept that the German cars require more upkeep.

My mom had an FX35 a while ago. Think it was an '04 or '05. It was a really nice car. Then she got a Nissan Murano, then this year upgraded to an EX35.

I think an RX would be my number one choice given Lexus's reputation for reliability.  Unfortunately, the wife is not a fan.  I also liked new Highlander Limited that we looked at last weekend, but she was less than thrilled.

The Honda Pilot is butt ass ugly.

I think the FX's styling is something that you either love or hate.

I really like the Q5 and think that the S5 is sex on wheels.  Unfortunately, living over a hundred miles away from service is generally not an option with an Audi.

The FX is a sportier SUV. If your looking for more utility/off road capability look at other vehicles (as the 4runner, Grd Cherokee).

I used to drive my ex girlfriends and it was a blast to drive.

Great acceleration & pretty good handling for the price.

Nice interior decor & the 3.5 as stated before is a reliable engine.

Interior space is diminished but again this is a vehicle geared to those who want a little more sport than utility.

Oh yeah... And as stated above, tires are EXPENSIVE.

I recall my ex spent $1600 for 4 new ones.

20 inch sport tires = $$$

That price range also to consider

2011 VW Toureg

2011 Volvo XC60 T6.... 300hp/325 lb-ft of torque.

2011 Lincoln MKX....much improved for 2011.

The MKX is being seriously considered as there is a Lincoln dealer in our small town.  I also like the XC60, but she indifferent to the brand.

I owned a VW ten years ago for one year.  I will not make that mistake again.
