Not new but here we go again! They are pushing the EPA approach again by regulating lead. Look for the O to push this!

They just have to keep poking don't they.

Fine, I will just used STEEL bullets in my .45 ACPs. Of course being only 160 grains, they will be moving at 1300 ft/sec so they will do more damage.

Well dont tell them we use other metals to make bullets now ^^^^ --dumbasses

So people will start stealing fishing weights, wheel weights off cars, etc......

So many educated people and none of them think......

They already regulate carbon dioxide for fuck's sake...lead is a banned product for fishing and hunting in certain areas.
This maneuver would not surprise me

Lead shot was banned for waterfoul hunting in 1991, and lead sinkers are banned in Yellowstone and a few other places.

This is what I really worry about… What if they go after powders ? No more reloading either…. I can make bullets, I'm not making smokeless powder anytime soon

Osmium powder.
Tungsten powder and rod.

All of that shit is kinda expensive though.

Quick everyone run out and get your pre-ban ammo!

i say we storm the buick lead mine in missouri and capture half the world's lead production. I've been down in that mine....very cool indeed.

FIGHT BACK.

Go to this link and use it. It takes 60 seconds to take action. If you have the time to firemission a poll, you have the time to do this.

http://www.ruger.com/micros/advocacy/

Then, send it to all your friends. Post it on FaceBook. Then hit it again... and again... and again.

I've been doing this every single day for the past week. Yes, it gets a canned response, but the numbers and the pro-gun position gets recorded. Every time.
Link Posted: 1/29/2013 7:38:33 AM EDT
Is it time to panic yet? Didn't the ATF say that some bronze bullets were AP recently?

yes but those are all harder and the atf is claiming maybe armor piercing

No theft needed. I know where to access a huge supply of lead from specific areas accessible only by scuba diving.

I used to dive in some old fishing areas on the coast many years ago. Areas with riprap were most prone to snags. A pair of scissors and some cheap side cutters made quick work of the lines. A lift bag and a sturdy container to bring it to the surface is the only extra gear needed.

I hauled in hundreds of pyramid and tear drop sinkers typically 3-4 oz each per trip. Some of clean tackle and sinkers were given to the fishermen as a sign of good will for diving in "their fishing hole" Others were brought home and melted down into 10 and 20 pound blocks that I use for holding down tarps etc.

I would love to make a trip back down and see how many we can get after 20 years.

Brother, can you spare some bullets for a reloader?
Link Posted: 1/29/2013 7:55:22 AM EDT
Ban lead. Ban Barnes Solid bullets because they are "armor piercing." Then sic the EPA/ATF on anyone making any other types of bullets until there is nothing left.

Hmm, I just did some very rough calculations and it came to about $60 for a single 150 gr .308 bullet. Can that be right?

ETA: Gold looks like $517 for the same bullet. Just trying to keep my options open.

silver is alot cheaper

1 troy ounce=480 grains.

The lead is going away in wheel weights - most are zinc or steel now.

Barnes has been attacked by the BATF for making bronze solids already.

Steel bullets mentioned above are illegal already - along with several other alternative materials already mentioned.

Lead cores have been banned for hunting in many places.

We are kind of pushed in to a corner here. Without lead cores, and prohibiting solids in copper & it's alloys we will be limited to things like the Barnes X bullet, or powdered tungsten cores - both very expensive.

.

I suppose we could cast projectiles from scrapped brass cases that can't be reloaded anymore, eh?
Brass is only going $1.60/Lb last I checked locally.

1,000 decapped 5.56 goes ~13 Lbs. That's about $0.02/case in scrap value, and 1/2 Lb of dead primers.

Been kicking it around a bit, no details worked out yet in real life.

Brass doesn't fill molds very well at atmospheric pressure. And anyways, handgun projectiles made principally from brass are considered "armor piercing" by statute. And therefore forbidden.

Well, in that case, who gives a fuck?

If ammo becomes prohibitively expensive, and everything else is determined to be "illegal", then who gives a fuck?

An illegal law purposefully meant to make criminals out of law abiding citizens can not and should not be followed.

But that's just me.
