Generally speaking, if you have a buyer that fills out a 4473 buying a long gun; you call NICS and get a delay...
What is the proper and or, required delay period? Do delays generally occur for you on a Friday afternoon or evening, before a weekend?

What if the buyer gets two in a row, both for long guns, seperated by a time span of approximately 40 days, he has been your customer for many years,
a stand up citizen, and never any problems or denials from NICS? (the first delay was approved)

What do these delays mean, or represent in your experience?

Thanks for your time,

Delay means his personal information closely matches some criminals and they have to make sure of the buyers identity. Often they will ask for addtl info like place of birth etc.. Happens with common names. No particular day, usually approval comes back the same day.

Have the customer enter his SSN to remove the ambiguity.

This was entered on the 4473 and given to NICS

Resident Aliens get auto-delayed it seems.

Not an 01 FFL.

IIRC, 72 hrs mandatory wait unless an all clear response given after the 'delay' response.
