One of my relatives passed away and they live in a different state than I do, anyway it turns outs they wanted me to have some old rifle after they passed, how do I legally take possession.

I'm not an FFL holder, but the executor of the estate can transfer the rifle to your FFL.

I guess I'm as stupid as my ex says I am.

Same as you would a toaster. Unless one of the states in question has some form of registration.

So go get your stuff and bring it home.

Inheritances are exempt from the federal requirement that interstate transfers be conducted by a FFL.
