An FBI Denver Joint Terrorism Task Force handout being distributed to Colorado military surplus store owners lists the purchase of popular preparedness items and firearms accessories as “suspicious” and “potential indicators of terrorist activities,” instructing store owners to keep records on and report people who:
“Make bulk purchase of items to include: Weatherproofed ammunition or match containers Meals Ready to Eat Night Vision Devices; night flashlights; gas masks High capacity magazines Bi-pods or tri-pods for rifles” More @ http://oathkeepers.org/oath/2011/08/10/7769/ PDF of Handout |

Go read the PDF. They are encouraging the stores to collect ID on all customers, and a bunch of other crap too.
Such bullshit. |

Sorry, surpluss stores are not operator / tier 1 enough for the folks they thin thhey need to worry about.
They just sell a bunch of musty and knock off shit at insane rates. I can get civi gear of much higher util, ity and quality at the same price by shopping on arfcom vendor sights or hopping in to see what all the new gear is in a typical travis/chris mancrush thread Regardless, surplus store operators are old school, ornery, cantankerous, and not willing to cooperate. They pretty much peaked during the goofy and now dead militia movement of the 90s where you had fat old men running around inna woods in mismatched east and westgerman uniforms with their damn hunting rifles or a mini 14 at best |

Fucking idiots.
It seems that the gov is unwilling to hire anyone with an IQ above room temperature. |

Do surplus stores even carry ammo? I don't think I've ever seen an ammunition section in any surplus store I've been to.
That said, I don't frequent them. I do remember airsoft displays though... |

Maybe they mean weatherproofed ammo and match containers, like weatherproof storage, ammo cans ect. You gotta watch those ammo cans.

"It is important to remember that just because someone's speech, actions, beliefs, appearance, or way of life is different; it does not mean that he or she is suspicious."
What this statement means is, just because some shifty looking Arab guy named Achmed and his ten best friends on work visas from Saudi Arabia comes in, does not mean that you should pay them any extra attention. But when Joe the Marine just back from his third tour in the sandbox comes in and buys ammo cans, MREs to show his kids, and waterproof matches, one should demand ID and contact DHS... Am I reading the liberal NewSpeak correctly? TR85. |

You realize now, that there is active monitoring of this and every site now, don't you?
We are the list. |

Interesting.
I haven't seen any of that retardation here, but it is consistent with the level of idiocy I have seen from them before. The FBI and most federal LE are out of touch with reality when it comes to retail stores and how we operate. Require ID from all new customers??? Whoever wrote that is a complete and utter idiot. You don't demand ID when somebody want to buy a pair of pants or a case of MRE's. Whoever thinks this is a good idea, or even doable, needs to be fired today for being a complete out of touch moron. Keep records of purchases? I track my sales. I don't track my sales by name to people. Why? Because number one it is fucking stupid. Number two, do they have any idea the damm time that would consume???? Once again, whoever wrote this is an out of touch idiot. "Hey, it would be a great idea for you to waste hours every day demanding ID from all customers and logging everything they buy" Fucking idiots. Suspicious items- MRE's, Ammo Boxes, Flashlights?????? Hey, Agent Lala Land, damm near every one of my customers buys at least one of those items. Your a fucking moron if you think somebody buying ammo cans is suspicious. I saw the same idiocy in the Agents who came buy to interview us during the Eric Rudolph manhunt. They were polite, professional, but clueless. "Do you sell ammo cans and backpacks?" Sure. "Do you keep a list of everybody who buys them?" Umm, no. What purpose would that serve??? Truth is, if they had asked someone like me who works in the business, I could have helped them work a profile of what is really odd and stands out. Most of what is on their list does not in this business. But it is typical of most government, when they interact at all with the private sector they assume they know more than anyone else, so they don't ask the people that have a clue. Then the end result is a document like that that everyone in the industry will look at and laugh at what a bunch of complete and utter morons wrote it, then had supervisors who approved it. I hope someone from the FBI brings one of those in here. I will go over it sentence by sentence to point out the stupid. |

I think I'll take a little jaunt to my local surplus shop today on my lunch hour. Mr. Rusty Shackleford needs some new ammo cans and MREs.
|

Gun shops are getting them too... only they are tailored to gun shops. I got one in the mail a few days ago.
Mine says: "Potential Indicators of Terrorist Activities Related to Firearms Shops and Ranges" |

Try flying from Iraq to the US one way, with no return ticket and no way to prove how you got there. Oh, and do it while not being .mil. See how many lists you are added too and how many people's head explode when you do it. At Gatwick Airport, you would have thought i had a gun and a bomb, by the reaction i got. The only list that matters now is the "Don't Fuck With Me List"! |

Not sure what Mil Surp stores the FBI thinks will actually cooperate with this directive. Most of the mil surp stores I've been in are run by folks are are just a wee bit wary of the government overlords...

I remember reading what the Libtards had in their "AWB II".
They wanted to regulate ammo cans & have serial numbers on them. Only a racist Tea Party Terrorist type could have ANY use for a water-proof storage device. The Ol' Crew Chief |

Somebody needs to cross post this in the colorado hometown forum.

I like these statements:
It is important to remember that just because someone's speech, actions, beliefs, appearance, or way of life is different; it does not mean that he or she is suspicious.
And this little gem: Some of the activities, taken individually, could be innocent and must be examined by law enforcement professionals in a larger context to determine whether there is a basis to investigate.
So they need to investigate someone to find out if they need to investigate them? |

Letter just sent to my congresscritter.
Dear Sir: I have recently seen a flyer distributed to Colorado military surplus stores by the local FBI office. It requests that proprietors of such stores require IDs, track purchases, use "soft interrogation" techniques and report any suspicions to local law enforcement. While this sounds fairly reasonable, "suspicious people or groups" include anyone who espouses a desire for personal privacy, pays in cash, makes "extreme statements about race, religion or violence" or "suspicious comments" against the government. "Suspicious purchases" include bulk purchases of items such as weatherproof matches, ammunition, MREs, night vision/infra-red flashlights, standard-capacity magazines or rifle bipods. It seems that Colorado hunters, varminters, hikers, recreational shooters, those having an interest in preparing for emergencies and/or your constituents who are livid at the irresponsibility and incompetence rampant in this administration are considered potential terrorists by the FBI. I sincerely hope that you are in a position to put an end to this nonsense before merely writing my representative is enough to make me appear “suspicious”. Sincerely, KeithC |

You know, read further down on that link and they compare that list to the Boy Scouts, how your average Boy Scout should be reported to the Feebs. We should do that, everyone turn in your local scout down the road, he's got camping food, tents, knives, he knows how to shoot, a strange uniform with tactical special ops badges and patches, an obvious terrorist! And his motto is the worst, "BE PREPARED"!!! |
