Cool!!! I wish I could use battle rifles for deer, hehe. I'm getting ready for tomorrow - first day in ohio, I can use shotgun, muzzle loader or handgun. This year i'm using a remington 700 inline. Today at the range i shot my best group, 1.5"@100yds using 150grs of pyrodex pellets and a 240gr hornady xtp.

Is there a limit to the number of rounds you can have in the mag? Does it have to be blocked?

The FAL gets my vote as one of the best all around firearms ever created. If you only had one rifle, that'd be an excellent choice, and you've shown why. Nice going. Enjoy the sausage! |

Nice doe, how much did she weigh? A little over 100 pounds after gutting. Is there a limit to the number of rounds you can have in the mag? Does it have to be blocked? Naked80 nailed it. The magazine has to be blocked so it cannot hold more than 5 rounds. I used small wood blocks and filed them down to size. What ammo did you use? I already threw the empty box away but it was some type of soft point Winchester hunting ammo. That rifle has no legitimate sporting purpose! Nice looking doe. What kind of FAL is that? I'm new to FALs. Just bought a DS Arms STG-58 last week. Ran 120 rounds of 150 grain surplus ball through it yesterday without problems. Love the rifle. Actually thought about taking it on a hunt before season is over.

I tried getting one this year with my DSA/Stg-58 - but no go.
I did nail one two years ago with it however and now consider my FAl to be my "lucky deer rifle". |

What kind of FAL is that? It is a L1A1 on an Imbel receiver. It is a Century gun. I replaced the gas piston and it seems to run pretty good (still not perfect though). |

Nice doe! It is better your animal goes on your plate than in someone's front seat. In another thread, there are people who have serious collisions between automobile and deer. I don't hunt, but isn't your FAL a bit heavy to be carrying while tripsing thru the woods? Even with 5 rounds it probably still weighs over 10lbs.

I've got about 4-5 deer in the freezer. Are you sharing any good sausage recipes? We only make venison Chorizo so far, but it's great breakfast sausage. I just can't imagine making 200 lbs. of chorizo. -White Horse |
