"Facebook is going to start fact checking, labeling, and burying fake news and hoaxes in the News Feed, the company announced on Thursday.
The decision comes after Facebook received heated criticism for its role in spreading a deluge of political misinformation during the U.S. presidential election. To combat fake news, Facebook has partnered with a shortlist of media organizations, including Snopes and ABC News, that are part of an international fact-checking network lead by Poynter, a nonprofit school for journalism located in St. Petersburg, Florida. Starting as a test with a small percentage of its users in the United States, Facebook will make it easier to report news stories that are fake or misleading. Once fact checkers have confirmed that the story is fake, it will be labeled as such and demoted in the News Feed. A company spokesperson told Business Insider that the social network will also use other signals, like algorithms that detect whether a story that appears fake is going viral, to determine if it should label the story as fake and bury it in peoples' feeds. "We've focused our efforts on the worst of the worst, on the clear hoaxes spread by spammers for their own gain, and on engaging both our community and third party organizations," Facebook News Feed chief Adam Mosseri said in a company blog post on Thursday. A team of Facebook researchers will also review website domains and send sites that appear to be fake or spoofed (like "washingtonpost.co") to third-party fact checkers, a Facebook spokesperson said. Of the 42 news organizations in Poynter's fact-checking network, Facebook is starting out with the following four: Snopes, Factcheck.org, ABC News, PolitiFact. "We are only involved to the extent that Facebook relies on the list of signatories to our code of principles as a starting point for the organizations it chooses to verify," a Poynter spokesperson told Business Insider. "Facebook is the only organization certifying third party fact-checkers on its platform." Facebook has given its four initial fact-checking partners access to a tool that will let them label stories in the News Feed as fake, a Facebook spokesperson said. The spokesperson said that Facebook is not paying the organizations to fact check. The websites that Facebook determines to be fake news organizations or spoofed domains will also not be able to sell ads on the social network. Owners of fake news sites can make thousands of dollars per month through internet ads." http://www.businessinsider.com/facebook-will-fact-check-label-fake-news-in-news-feed-2016-12 |

My 60 year old super lib and pretty smart younger brother is always popping off "Snopes" He is upside down about Trump winning...<img src=http://www.ar15.com/images/smilies/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
About 8 years ago we were coming back from a fishing trip and I asked where he got his news from ? He told me NPR radio " They can't Lie "....I asked him to say that over and over a few times...it fucked him up and I remind him of it often.... |

I already hate the curated news feed I just want the latest posts by date.
Way to make it even worse FB. |

I read an article after the 1st or 2nd debate about "fact checking the fact checking sites" and Snopes came out at the bottom in terms of their true or false.
Interestingly enough, each of the sites had their own leaning but what the liberal sites did was basically overload on Trump false statements, barely recognize truthful ones, barely recognize Hillary's false statements, and overload on Hillary's true statements. The article basically said they are all shit. |

A friend tossed up a link to The Federalist Papers #10 and it was shouted down as click bait and fake news.
Some people are already lost in space. We decided to form a super group rock band and turn the Federalist Papers into a Rock Opera. |

May as well use CTR and factcheck.org as they are totally unbiased and truthful.
The MSM pravda didn't work so now they're moving to social media propoganda. Which was already there, they're just going to be much more aggressive in their tactics now and not so subtle. |

Cultural marxists shall investigate the cultural marxists and find them to be 100% accurate and honest.
The same cultural marxists shall investigate all of their critics and ideological opponents and find them to be innacurate, fake, racist, and literally Hitler. The idiots that comprise the majority of the population will believe these findings entirely and without question. |

Don't interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake. Zuckerberg is making a big one right now. It wasn't enough for him to just try and stay focused on his product; nope, he had to get political with it.
This will help usher in the death knell for this piece of shit web site. |

Benghazi was the result of a disgraceful internet video If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor My plan will save the average family $2,500.00 Your turn. ETA I ran some of these phrases through Snopes. Most of them had no relevant responses. I found this on Benghazi: 'Moreover, the majority report issued by the House Select Committee on Benghazi plainly stated that, minutes after learning about the ongoing attack at the U.S. diplomatic compound, President Obama and Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta issued "clear orders to deploy military assets":' Talk about your Fake News -- just find it on Snopes. |

What's the alternative to facebook, preferably not owned by a liberal idiot? View Quote AR15.com is the alternative. This news about FB is coming in just as I've really woken up to how utterly useless FB is. I use it more to communicate (through the messenger) than anything else, and that's only because I live somewhere without cell phone service. My FB feed has been reduced to only a few people I give enough of a shit about to see what they have to say any almost all of them communicate through memes and funny pictures. If FB shut down tomorrow the world would be better off... unless everyone migrated back to myspace. |

People still use Facebook? Why? Make no mistake, it's where a huge majority get their news from. Truth. I used to correct a lot of the crap that my liberal friends and family would post, but it was becoming a full time job. Some of the shit is so far from the truth that I can't believe that these people buy into it. One example was when my loony cousin posted an official-looking pie chart showing that 60% of federal spending is on "Military", and only 15% is spent on "entitlement programs". The tagline was something to the effect that this shows the priorities of our nation. All her paste-eater friends started saying how awful it is, and we only care about killing and whatnot. So, I posted the real pie chart and a series of links to the real spending breakdown, which shows the EXACT OPPOSITE to be true. 60% or so on SS and Medicaid/Medicare, and 16% or so on Defense. Their response? "Ya, but still... It's just as bad." wat. They are not interested in the truth. AT ALL. |

Its not gonna stop anything, news will just go out as news bytes on memes/pics.
Facebook isn't stopping anything and zuckerfuck knows it. |

So Anything that I am a Direct Witness to will be labeled "Fake News".
