My son is 3, we were walking up to this guy's driveway and he yelled for us to stop and get out of his yard because I was wearing a jacket that had NAVY on it, that he was an ex jarhead and no NAVY person will ever come in his yard. After I told him it was from OLD NAVY he said, "Oh then that's ok, come on up." We didn't, and if my son wasn't there I'd have plucked his Kerry sign up out of his lawn and threw it at him for freaking my boy out.
 So am I missing something about animosity between the 2? |

The Marines are just pissed that they have to be considered part of the navy (please don't post the men's department joke, we all know it), and that they don't get to drive the big boats.

Now on a similar note......
Two young girls came up to the door last night. My wife answered and they shouted "TRICK OR TREAT!". The two girls were dressed as hookers and were about 12 y.o. old. One pulled on her bikini bottom and asked again..."Trick-or-treat"? My wife asked her if her father was around, she said "Yes". My wife then told them they weren't getting any candy and that their father should be ashamed of them for allowing them to dress like hookers. They weren't happy. SGtar15 |

I'm seriously doubting he was a real Marine.
Yeah there are rivalries between the two but many a Marine owes his life to the Navy and vice versa. Here's a thought. Wedge a nail under his back tire so when he backs out tomorrow to vote he'll get a flat. Most likely anyone voting for Kerry wont be smart enough to change a flat. |

I doubt that the "adult male" that you encountered is a MARINE. I have never heard a MARINE refer to himself/herslelf as an "ex jarhead." I have never heard of a MARINE taking interservice rivalry to that level. We used to rag on the squids and they would rag on us, but there was always respect. I would speculate that he isn't even a veteran.
ETA: The MARINES in my units that ragged on Corpsman, SEALS, or SeaBees were newbies and we quickly squared them away. The Corpsman,SEALS, and seabees were and are held in very high regard in my MARINE CORPS. |

Marine or not, that guys a serious dickhead.
Though I have to agree with many others here and say it doesn't sound like he actually was. I don't know any Former Marines that refer to themselves as jarheads. Much less "Ex." The term "Ex" is only given to those shitbags that got KICKED out, not honorably discharged. I think every REAL Marine knows that. As for the rivalry, I don't know a service member of ANY branch that would take it that far. We all jab each other, but it's just harmless fun. We all have jobs to do. Each has their specialty that contributes to the total force. We all know that. (Well, except maybe the Airmen. Civilians with a uniform. ) Besides, everytime Marines have to go somewhere and fight, the Navy gives us a ride!In all seriousness though, my cover was always off to the Corpsmen. I respected those guys and they helped us alot more than we helped them, I'm sure. Felt sorry for them a little too. I mean they sign up for the Navy and get stuck with the Corps while some of their buddies end up pushing wheelchairs around the hospital. That had to suck. |
