....and then run around the house with a live grenade in your hand, looking for a piece of tape or string to hold the thing together while you bend the pin to put back in?

IIRC way back about the time that grenades quit having fuses you had to light with flint and steel or a lucifer, folks have been using cloth tape to secure the spoon to the body.
Might be a good idea for you to at come into the 20th century with your grenade handling practices |

No hijack attempt... just as it happened...pucker factor was high for a second or two, then I put the pin back in. Had a little help from a guy named O'Connor, who was my plt sgt at the time. It was a long time ago, and I don't get to tell that story often (if ever). Still curious... mjohn? How did your episode of 'Oh Sh*t!" go down. it should start... "No shit, guys, there I was...." |

+1 Wrap the spoon in tape and leave a buddy tab on the tape. Do it high on the spoon so that the tape is above your grip when in your hand. That way, you can unwrap it while you have it in a throwing grip. |

Ever discharge a firearm inside the house?
You don't even notice the smoke and cordite smell, the sound is the only thing you really remember. Oh, and a mag dump done in anger can be suprisingly well grouped. |

Wow... Must not have been payin that close of attention.. The pins on a standard fuse take a good deal of pressure to pull.. Much more than most people think... I would have thought one would notice something wrong before it got to the point the cotter pin let go...
But man would that have been a fun time!!! What color was it? I can just see your whole house covered in bright orange or red "dust" that those things let out... I still have a pair of boots that the orange will NOT come off of... But thats what happens when your buddy throws smoke in you tent! |

In our battallion, when soldiers used a smoke grenade on an FTX they had to turn in the ring, pin and spoon to account for the spent smoke grenade.
We had some soldiers who had some extra old grenade spoons they found on the ground, and decided to take home some free smoke grenades by pulling out the pins and rings from two grenades and taping the spoons to the grenade bodies. Then the genius put the two grenades in his cargo pocket. You can guess how that turned out. Burns, purple burned DCUs and Article 15s. |

As OPFOR, I let loose a smoke grenade inside the MOUT killhouse on accident. I tried to lob it out the window before the students made it to the house, it filled the rooms up with thick, purple smoke. I wasn't well-liked since the students used OUR smoke to THEIR advantage.

Lol, your purple boogers remind of being in the shop while cars are being painted. Though a horrible idea, I've watched a few cars be painted without wearing a mask. Only for a few minutes at a time, and with ventilation, but the colored boogers are gross! I've had red, blue, etc. |

I one time accidentally lit a roman candle up inside the house. Instead of putting it in the fireplace i went and pointed it towards the sink and turned on the water. Rather than shooting in one direction, they used the slope of the sink and fucking shot everywhere.

Sim rounds hurt...don't be such a pussy Coop  I didn't see you get shot by 6 dudes rushing the building with M4's and blasting away at you from five feet until you went down and stopped moving. I have scars on the back of my legs from that one LOL. I think I remember you and that grenade...Cop CST?I never pulled a pin unless I was going to throw it. I did booby trap one of those MOUT houses (B_S knows of which I speak; One with the trap door in floor and small side door). There was no one "inside" when the grenades went off, the grenades dropped to the dirt 3 feet under the house when they went to open the doors. OPFOR is about the only thing I miss about that job. Lots of good times we had. |

Not quite show stopping, if you know how a grenade works, but fixing the "problem" deserves immdediate attention. Freak out occurs when the distinctive sound of the striker hitting is detected as the spoon whirs away. |

Here in Wyoming you can get some pretty kick ass smoke grenades from the fireworks stands. Not as good as the military kind, but pretty long lasting, with lots of smoke.

 I am most affected by this subject...My grandfather was in the army during the Korean war and among other things brought home several crates of smoke grenades. He was a chemist (passed away) and believe me I am still find extremely dangerous stuff he has just left around (corroded pen flares? tear gas pen capsules? Mauser Navy Broom handle? the one with stock case and drum magazine? Anyways he was a cool gent and after he passed I put all of the smokers in my reloading room. While I was stacking them up I noticed a box full of LIVE BLASTING CAPS. So my dad and I did the responsible thing and called the sheriffs dept. to take them off our hands. They did... and said smoke grenades were illegal... I bout scream but my dad told me to stfu and don't argue with a cop he was taking dynamite outta here and I wasn't to say a thing. Turns out they weren't illegal... I KNOW THOSE SOBS HAD A BLAST SETTING THEM OFF AT THE RANGE I saw the look on their faces... Haha dude lets set em off as soon as we get back j0hn |
