" A 31-year-old Franklin,Texas man accused of illegally hunting white-tailed deer was among several people indicted this week by a Brazos County grand jury.

Jonathan Alan Buckley was indicted on two felony charges of taking wildlife resources without consent. Each count is punishable by up to two years in prison.

Buckley told game wardens he shot four deer in November 2010 on Terrell Farms property. He told authorities he had permission to hunt on the land, but when they interviewed the landowner he said Buckley was only allowed to hunt hogs and coyotes on the property and agreed to press charges against him " .

My mom has 240 acres in VA that includes a couple big ponds and about a third mile of riverbank. She quit allowing hunters and fishermen to use the property because too many wouldn't pack out what they brought in,just disrespectfully leaving piles of trash, unattended fires, half butcherd carcasses etc... Pretty sad really

This topic often comes up around hog hunting.  Said hunters think they should hunt for free cause they "are doing the owner a favor" .

Now, hogs are a pain. They knock down feeders, tear up round bales and mess up stock tanks, but I've never heard of a hog using the tractor for target practice, dumping old furniture or stealing cattle guards

happens out here all the time. Its because of these people that dont have respect for the land or the people who own the land is why I am having a hard time finding a place to upland hunt this year.

I hunted a guys property off and on for several years. Last year someone shot up the land owners new 500K harvester using it as a back stop to sight in for deer season. Someone else used the house he lets the farm hands stay in as a target. According to the owner the guy who shot it thought it was just an old tractor that was left to sit. So no more hunting on his land for anyone.

Do I blame the guy for not letting people on to hunt? Not one bit

I don't allow anybody outside of a few family members and neighbors (we have agreements allowing each other free passage across property lines for hunting/hiking/etc) on my land. I don't want the liability of people I don't know out there fucking around or trashing the place. I had to put up a gate a few weeks ago. I guess the no trespassing sign was not enough.

It's pretty sad that some assholes have to go and ruin it for everybody, but that's the way it is these days.  If you want to hunt, you have to either buy your land, know somebody, or take your chances with the assholes and retards on public land.  It's really a shame, IMO.

Really though, how hard is it to clean up your shit and not be an asshole?  My old man would get really pissed if I littered, and he always made me make sure that a campsite was cleaner than when we got there.  When I was out west for a week, I picked up a few soda bottles and stuff that got dropped 20 feet from a shit can.  Seriously people, there's a can right there, but you just drop it and walk on?  Those motherfuckers need to be shot.

And then there are scores of hunters who hunt ethically.  I used to hunt my neighbor's land.  I gave him half of each kill...packaged.

I was raised to believe that if I treated other people's property the way I treat my own, I was not being respectful enough of others. I'll put my own tools away dirty, but not borrowed tools. I'll park my car with the needle on Empty and a flat spare, but yours will always be returned with 4 good tires and a full tank, or cash tendered to take care of that.

We lease 3500 acres up in the Texas Panhandle (Please send rain!) & we treat the place as if it was our own. We've had a couple of issues with poachers & thieves. It is a great idea to be in regular contact with the game warden in your area. Treat the place as if you are a guest, because you are..

I would believe you. I know too many landowners that have issues to doubt. What's even worse are the folks that live in areas in which the sherriff/game wardens do nothing. Some people are under the impression living in the country is utopian but that's not always the case. Check out the problems people have on the homesteading forums.

I have a better one than that.

A group of hunters stole a cattle guard.  Not some little 8' thing, but one put in by the oil company to access their wells.  It was made of well casing and big enough for two well trucks to pass side by side, placed over a 6' diameter culvert.

Bastards came up one weekend, cut it apart with a torch and hauled it off for scrap. Damn thing weighed almost 4 tons.

The railroad just needs to put a couple of 240s with a protective plate around it in two of the cars.  Train rolls by, employees manning 240s open door, cut loose with blanks.  If any of the dumbasses stand their ground and shoot back, bullet proof plates protect employee.

Do it a few times and paint "NEXT TIME IT WILL BE LIVE ROUNDS" in big red letters on the car the last two times the train does a "drive by".

Cletuses will spread the word around.

Ok guys  i'm on your side (to a point) but you're misrepresenting the argument.

Landowner bitches that hogs are tearing up his property.

There are various companies who can take care of the problem (I used to be one of them) but i'm going to charge you $$$ for my expense and time for taking care of your hog problem.  x amount per hog or by the pound, various ways to charge the landowner for this service.

Landowner says "What???  No WAY!  I charge people to hunt on my property!  Those things are worth money!"

Either your hogs are a resource to cherish and sell, or they are a pest that you need help getting rid of.

This "both ways" stuff is what people in the HTF bitch about.
