Maybe so. That leaves me bugging my friend, to bug his son about taking an evening in the next couple weeks to come do this (last I heard he lives about an hour away), or sending it to the city. (20mi away). If I can figure out how to bolt it, I can do it myself tomorrow. Meanwhile it's hard to shift it, holding the bracket in my hand. Shipping it to the city would definitely be easier, but if I can save hundreds of dollars by drilling a few holes, I'm taking that option.

Could you leave the console off and just use some self-tappers and mount the bracket & shifter sideways (horizontal)?
Would get you around until a better option comes forward. |

I went out to see if it would mount sideways, and I didn't think that it would work because of pulling the cable too far and twisting it a bit.
I set the bracket in place, then looked for what may work to hold it there. The best I have is an old shelf bracket.   I drilled some holes, to bolt it in place. I also tried to bend the back part down so that I could put the console back on, but I couldn't do it.  That holds it in place, but still doesn't stop it from torquing down/back, so I put a zip tie around the cable to help hold it to that shelf. It still takes two hands to shift, but it's much easier than with it just flopping around.  I didn't try shifting it from the rear, because I was pretty much done in when I finished this part. I'll try that tomorrow. |

The brake lock arrived today. I'll most likely install it tomorrow.

I just checked how well it shifts, at the transmission, and it was pretty smooth and easy. Much easier than with the shifter.
I also installed the brake lock.    |

Update!
It's been sitting all this time, waiting for my friend to have the time to help, and earlier today he did it. He replaced the old shift cable, I swapped the old battery for a new NOCO Lithium, and we bolted the shift bracket in with that shelf bracket. Now the bracket is completely supported, and with that new shift cable it goes in/out of gear very easily. Now I can do things outside again, like taking the trash out, getting the mail, and sitting in the woods when the weather is right.     |
