I saw THIS stupid BS and wanted to kick some butt. I have a lot of friends on that team. They have been an outstanding group since day one. Now, some jackasses at city hall are disbanding them for "budget cuts"! WTF?!?

Yikes!  I lived in Escondido and I worked with some of those guys on sweeps.

An Orange county LE agency disbanded their narcotics detail due to the buget crises. Sent some of the detectives back to patrolling in a black and white.

Expect to see more of this.

When will agencies realize that a poor economy means more work for us and cutting units ultimately creates more work for the grunts on the street.

I am sorry BITE, but that statement is just full of truth and logic.  And you cant honestly expect some suit to understand that do you?

They are really, really going to regret that one if any sort of serious incident, or hell, even a high risk warrant, develops there.

That is one of those tools in the bag that you might not absolutely need very often, but when you need it, you NEED it.

Is/was Escondido SWAT a full-time team or collateral assignments for regular patrol guys?  I can see disbanding a full-time team due to budgets but I think the additional expenses of training/OT for a part-time team wouldn't make a dent in the budget problem.

TOU was Escondido's full-time team. I've trained with a lot of their guys and they are all stand-up go-getters. I don't know the status of the Patrol/SWAT division, but it doesn't sound good.

Sad to hear that but the economy is bad.  City leaders (even liberal ones) will have to make budget cuts somewhere.  Don't know if there are better places to make the cuts but it has to be done.  Expect to hear more of that in the coming months.

Sucks but we all are going to have to work harder and tighten the belts.

Our local cops have cut back on range qualifications from monthly to quarterly to save money on ammunition.

They also instituted a policy of all reports have to be completed same day. Used to be In custody reports had to be done before the suspect went to court and everything else had to be done withen 29 days. The same day policy has the effect of cutting way back on self intiated activity. Thats saves gas $$$ and booking fees because the cops are sitting at the station writing assigned reports instead of out making car stops and ped stops.

San Diego PD ran out of ammo for the qual shoot and everyone had to go to a lecture about shooting at cars instead of actually shooting.  I guess the bean counters forgot to approve the ammo purchase or they just ran out of money.  Sad state of affairs in San Diego County.

Nope. I worked at an agency in Riverside County and I work at Quantico Tactical in Oceanside as the LE rep.
