I really like Led Zepplin. I just wish they would quit playing the same four songs over and over on the radio.

Stairway to Heaven
Blackdog
Whole Lotta Love
Moby Dick

Didn't Zepplin record more songs than these??

wait until may 27 when the mother load of live zep is released: 3cd set from 72'
and 5-1/2 hrs of dvd video from
la 72', earls court 75', and knebworth 79'

all music gets old when they constantly replay the same songs over and over. if i hear one more c.c.r. song im gonna shoot the f'in stereo!

This is exactly why I don't listen to the radio anymore.  Some of the best LZ songs are NEVER played on the damned radio.  Same is true for most bands.  Another example:  Dire Staits.

Though I am a LedZep fan, RipMeyer does have a slight point.  Zep has such a huge catalog of albums, why in the cornbread hell does AOR/Classic Rock radio only play the same exact handfull of songs?  I propose a 5 year moritorium on Stairway, Rock N Roll, Heartbreaker, Hey Hey What Can I Do, Kashmir, Fool In The Rain, etc.
Play No Quarter, We're Going To Groove, & the rest all you want.  No Lynyrd Synyrd Freebird, Gimme Three Steps or What's Your Name? allowed either.  If the radio station plays Black Sabbath then no Paranoid, Iron Man, or Warpigs allowed (or Dio era Heaven & Hell). Steppenwolf Born To Be Wild, MAGIC Carpet Ride [rolleyes]

I'd be willing to trade Zep (never hear or see any more, ever) to also never hear or see any form of RAP music ever. It would be tough going forth without Zep, but worth it to never be exposed to rap pollution again....

Another song stolen from Robert Johnson
Now you can squeeze my lemon 'til the juice run down my...
(spoken) 'til the juice rune down my leg, baby, you know what I'm talkin' about
You can squeeze my lemon 'til the juice run down my leg
(spoken) That's what I'm talkin' 'bout, now
But I'm goin' back to Friars Point, if I be rockin'to my head

While Led Zep may not be the most over rated band of all time, they are in the top two with the Beatles.
Maybe one of these days when we all have more time we can discuss the most over rated musicians of all time.  (Hendrix anyone?)

All in all, I thought they were just above the level of the Grateful Dead, and unless you're on drugs, Dead music sucks.

If you're sick of Zep, just listen to their "bad" albums like Presence, In Through the Out Door, and Coda.  I gained a lot of new appreciation for those songs, like "Hots on for Nowhere".

While everyone is entitled to their opinion, one must acknowledge the fact that LZ was one of the most influential bands in rock history.  While Page's playing may be considered "sloppy" he is often credited with creating the "riff".  What makes him good in my mind is two things:
1.  He plays the blues scale in innovative ways.
2.  He is not restricted to one syle of playing ie. he can play blues, jazz, reggae, funk and rock and then thats  just electric guitar.  Add in his accoustic playing (genius) and he ranks #1 in my book.

Jimmy Page may be an excellent guitarist, but Angus Young has him beat in the general balls-out hard rock guitar category.

Excellent post.  My favorite Zep songs are the ones you don't hear on the radio, like In My Time of Dying, The Rover and Since I've Been Loving You.  I'm also a huge Black Sabbath fan and HATE Iron Man.  What a stupid, over played song.  Give me Spiral Architect, Megalomania or Hand of Doom.

I hope this is flame bait

Jimmy Page was THE studio guitar player during the 60's in London.  He also produced all the Zeppelin albums.  I find it hard to say a guy sucks who has sold that many albums.

If you think Jimmy Page is sloppy, what do you consider Jimmy Hendrix?
