What is an 303 Enfield worth? Its in decent shape. Anything to look out for? My son has a chance to buy one. TIA zeekh

Vague question is vague.

Whole lot of variables can affect collectability.  Depending on where and when it came from, whether it's a No1MkIII or a No4MkI, or a No5 Jungle Carbine, whether it's been FTR'd (re-arsenaled), or with the suncorite paint still on it, you can get prices from $150 for an Ishy wire-wrap No1MkIII, to $1200 for a new-in-wrap Irish Contract No4MkII.



For just a fun shooter, and you don't care about how collectible it is, I wouldn't go over $250.

Yes... "Enfield 303" is vague.

Enfield made lots of weapons.   You are probably referring to the SMLE, or Short Magazine Lee Enfield - the primary rifle of the British armed forces from before the 20th century through to just after the second World War.

The first model was the SMLE No1MkIII.  The later model was the No4Mk1, and around the end of the war or after, there was the No5.  Later on there was the, oh what was it called, the Indian made model that was based on the No1MKIII receiver, but chambered 7.62 NATO.  


So a vague answer is about $200.

Yeah.  It's on my 'Movie Gun' list.  Like my 'Young Winston' gun is a Broomhandle Mauser, my 'Zulu' gun is the Martini-Henry.  The SMLE is my 'Breaker Morant' gun.  Still need to get one...
