http://www.humanevents.com/2013/12/08/empire-state-gun-owners-bracing-for-cuomos-confiscation-scheme/

County clerks, district attorneys, county sheriffs and local law enforcement do not want to enforce the S.A.F.E. Act which is now the governor’s law, he said. “They regard it as having nothing to do with law enforcement, it will not prevent crime, it will not prevent tragedy, it is a law of pure politics and they don’t want to have anything to do with it.”

Cuomo is telling people he will enforce the law, he said. “This governor walks into every room looking for a fight and if he can’t find one he’ll start one.”

“This is a constitutional crisis in the making,” he said. “The question is: Will the governor start pounding the table to force them to be the enforcer.”

Are you kidding? That mutherfucker lies in bed at night humping the pillow and thinking about an armed American in a standoff with the "authorities" over confiscation. The media will attack the first person to do that so hard, that there will be little sympathy left for anyone else to take a stand. He DREAMS of "making an example" out of someone who is principled enough to stand up to him.

If there was a promotion to be made from confiscating someone's unsafe act "arsenal" I'll bet the po-po would be all over it. Hell, just their picture in the paper would do.

New York has been using the Sullivan Act to confiscate firearms for over 100 years.

I thought there was a story that said they had already begun enforcing laws that weren't active until 2014?

Atlas Shrugged - There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws.

A lot don't, I know in Erie county Chris Jacobs the county clerk is very much against it, is part of a suit against the NYSP (or maybe a willing witness) due to some issues with it and the reality of a NYSP secret unit operating against gun owners, and our Sherrif, Tim Howard has been very vocal against it, ran for re-election this year flat out stating he would not enforce it (and I don't think there have been any arrests in Erie County by the Sheriffs Dept), and won.....

Time will tell, but there is pushback. Of course even if 90% of upstate LE is against it, and won't enforce it, there is the 10% who will zealously enforce it....

Not only that, but it would surely get the ball rolling on further legislation. Perhaps Federal.

Don't want to and wont are two totally different things.
They will enforce it with the same zeal that they do other unpopular laws.

In New York City, the police already have a more or less accurate database of registered firearms so they have a list of doors to knock on.

Outside of NYC, how would "the authorities" compile a list of citizens to harass?

Low compliance rates will put the governor in an interesting position especially in an election year, said Nojay. “I think registration rates are going to be less than 10 percent.”

Civil disobediance - Perfect.

Oh, I wouldn't doubt they don't want to.

That doesn't mean they won't do it anyway.

In NYS, you never really own your pistols. You are just allowed to lease them for however long 'they' say so.

I have one of those limited "FU Cuomo Come and Take it" shirts that were sold as a fund raiser during the legislative chicanery that passed for a structured debate.

If a New Yorker wants it to wear to the forthcoming party, IM Me, It's an XL IIRC and I'll send it free/post paid

If I had to take a WAG, I'd lean toward registration-via-background check but I'm totally ignorant of what the upstate laws and state requirements are. It would be only that - a guess.

And, actually, I had a recent disagreement with my wife's uncle - an NYPD captain - about the very topic of being morally responsible for our actions, whether or not they are "legal". I had that fresh in my mind when I read the above.
