Great new this side of the Pond tonite!!

The Editor of the Daily Mirror , Piers Morgan has been sacked after it was proved the 'photos' of UK soldiers 'abusing' Iraqi prisoners were staged to order fakes… That's our most rabidly anti US and anti Coalition paper shut up… YES!

Rueters:

By Jeremy Lovell

LONDON (Reuters) - The editor of one of Britain's most popular daily newspapers was fired Friday for publishing faked pictures of British soldiers abusing Iraqi prisoners.

Piers Morgan, editor of the Daily Mirror, was kicked out by the board of Trinity Mirror, which said it was "inappropriate" for him to continue as editor.

Despite mounting expert criticism of the pictures, and a statement by the government Thursday that they were fake, Morgan insisted his stories of abuse by troops were accurate.

"The pictures accurately illustrated the reality about the appalling conduct of some British troops," he said.

But Friday, newspaper owners Trinity Mirror threw in the towel and threw out their editor.

The statement by the board said the newspaper published the photographs "in good faith" and "absolutely believed" at the time they were genuine.

"However there is now sufficient evidence to suggest that these pictures are fakes and that the Daily Mirror has been the subject of a calculated and malicious hoax."

The Daily Mirror apologized and regretted damage done to the Queens Lancashire Regiment and the Army in Iraq.

Morgan's ousting came hard on the heels of a full frontal attack by the regiment, accusing the newspaper of being a recruiting poster for al Qaeda and urging Morgan to resign.

"It's time that the ego of one editor is measured against the life of the soldier," Brig. Geoff Sheldon told reporters at the regiment's headquarters in Preston,

...and the news media on this side of the pond has been curiously silent on this story...

Gee, I wonder why...

If you have followed this story it has become abundantly clear this editor KNEW those photos were fake and used them anyway and when caught  insisted they were real against the over whelming evidence to the contrary.

We are watching this debacle unfold here in the USA on CNN:
Fake abuse photos: Editor quits

The man was caught red-handed that the pictures were NOT from Iraq, these people don't have the "artistic license" to create the news, whenever, wherever, whoever they feel like.

Any body in Boston get the axe yet for their fake photoes?

Did Teddy Kennedy ever go to jail for killing Mary Jo Kopechne?

This is Massachusetts. If you're liberal and a public figure, you can pretty much get away with anything here, incl. murder, plagiarism, hoaxes, etc.

He refused to apologize and had to be thrown out of the building by security

Colleagues of the former editor said Mr Morgan had been called to the office of Trinity Mirror's chief executive, Sly Bailey, in Canary Wharf yesterday afternoon and ordered to issue a public apology. It is understood that he refused and was immediately escorted from the building by security.

Tony Blair's harshest critics keep getting busted in attempting to slander and calumny the war on Iraq, and Blair survives to fight another day.  It must drive them crazy.

Yet, that is clearly the legacy of all the major media in the US. Today's media is honest compared to the newspapers of 100 years ago. They invented news to influence elections, sway public opinion one way or the other, or simply to sell as many papers are possible.

Wait a sec, they still do that.

mattja: Today with the internet, it is a lot harder to fabricate fictitious news stories, people will see it right away. That is why today the news media has lost a lot of clout, before they totally controlled the dissemination of the news. If they didn't report it, it didn't happen, or by the time you heard about it was way too late. I think that is why the news media wants to regulate the internet under the guise of porn.
