eBay is not seller friendly in any way. If they can find a way to fuck you over, they will.

Hence why I closed my seller account years ago.

Good luck OP, no advice to give except their policies enable the fraudulent behavior.

Got my first return request ever. Sold a law enforcement book, dude opens a request and says he needed a different version. Pics he provided clearly show he read it cover to cover. My return window is 14-days. Item was delivered more than 20 days ago (with or without counting business days). Since the clown used "item not as described," will Ebay side with him or me?

How the heck did this request even go through if it's been more than 14 days?

You will be screwed. I was with a book, movie and video game reseller for the last 3 years.

If it's in the window, they'll side with the customer and they'll side with them when it's out, too. You can fight it, though you'll probably lose.

We would report the buyer and move on.

I dont know if thats something you can sell on Etsy, But ive had great experience with that. I sold a bunch of weld on clevis mounts to a guy. USPS lost it.   I had the buyer file a complaint, they asked me for my side of the story. In the end they refunded his money and let let me keep the money he paid for the initial purchase.

Very informative thread at just the right time for me. I'm about to start selling my childhood ('90s) toys. Had planned on using eBay. Now, maybe not.

I didn't think so, but there's toys on Etsy. Even some of the exact ones I have. I'll have to look into it. I always assumed it was only for small-scale crafters like yourself.

It's eBay. They screw sellers.

So the solution is easy. Everything sold as is, no warranty, expressed or implied, no returns or exchanges.

I've sold 800+ on eBay in past two years. Not a single issue.

A lot of people won't buy something on those terms won't buy. I sure the hell will IF and only IF...

A. The guy has a lot of previous sales and

B. Near perfect feedback.

Most people that move a lot of stuff there dread any negative feedback whatsoever.

Is that acceptable to eBay?

Or is it like our EE where sellers can and do put in their ads "insurance is extra" in spite of the rules stating the seller's SOL if something happens during shipping and they(the seller) didn't insure?

This, but I started making reports on skammed.com with their real name, ebay username and screenshots/evidence also.  I all but stopped selling anything on eBay once the rona game began and eBay took over all of the transaction from Paypal.

Contacted Ebay. Chat rep said: yup, you're shit outta luck (to that effect). Return timeframes mean diddly squat since buyers can abuse the "item not as described" function within 30 days of their purchase. Rep wants me to accept the return, report buyer, and hopefully Ebay agrees and subsidizes my return label costs. Still, the item looks used. Fucking scammer.

Besides their crazy absurd fees, eBay is a fucking joke.  Last time I sold something there I couldn’t believe how they robbed me. Never again.

They always side with the buyer, just like anything else, scammers and scumbags are everywhere.

That's a good point.

Besides always siding with the buyer, the seller has to pay crazy fees. I don't remember anymore, but I think it was 15-20% between ebay and paypall.

Seller is probably fucked. As has been said a bunch of times, eBay protects the buyer far far more than they will protect the seller.

I remember here on ARFCOM, a guy had a limited edition game console, brand new and unopened that he sold on eBay. The a-hole buyer claimed it was damaged or something, got his money back and sent back an old busted console in the box.

I call that the "eBay Warranty". If you have something that is broken, buy one on eBay to replace it, then claim the one you received was broken, get your money back and send your old and busted one back to the seller.

This is why I think - at least for high-dollar items - eBay should have the buyer send it to THEM and then if the item is correct, issue a refund. If the item is not, send it back to the buyer and close the case. If it's obviously the wrong thing, they get one pass. If they do it again, they get banned.

Highly recommend making sure serial numbers are documented in listing so you can definitively show the one they sent back is not what you sent them... but who am I kidding, they'll probably still screw you and just say that you shipped them the broken console and used pictures from somewhere else.
