I hate that shit.............I do the same thing because of several my friends and co-workers. I actually got in an argument with a pos lib coworker after I left a large tip to a waitress that busted her ass trying to please the complaining lib.....and the lib got mad. I told her to mind her own fucking business and pointed out how fucking ironic it is that the uber lib that supposedly believes in helping everyone and taking care of people that are struggling won't tip someone that busted her ass and probably doesn't make shit........but the big dickhead uber conservative guy went out of his way to pay more than the libs fair share for her.

I have an uncle who fucks with the waitress non stop. Picking on her, giving her a hard time, asking for something every couple of minutes, etc. Then leaves a buck or two tip on his $80 bill.
I have dropped a few ten dollar bills aside from my own tip because of his shit. I'm now always too busy for these family outings when they come up. What a coincidence. |

People that are rude, condescending, etc. to wait staff is one of my biggest pet peeves. If I'm rated high enough to do so I let people like that hear about it immediately. Most waiters/waitresses work hard long hours, aren't necessarily making a killing, and just don't need to be people's little whipping boys/girls. Plus I find it personally embarrassing to be in the company of people who act like that.
I tip pretty big. If the waiter/waitress really sucks I'll remain polite, give them the benefit of the doubt, and still leave 15-20% |

My wife has a friend like that, though not so bad. My B-in-law will always find something to complain about with his dish, nothing outrageous or over the top rudeness, he's always calm and somewhat polite. But it is still embarassing and I will not go to dinner with him anymore.
Bottom lne is you just gotta draw the line and refuse to socialize with them in public. |

In my experience these are people who have never worked in a service/customer facing job.
Watched an older couple complain to the manager at lunch because the resturant which was full and had a 30 minute wait was loud...

I used to go out to lunch with a group of co-workers once or twice a week many years ago.
One woman never failed to find something wrong with her meal and always complained like she was getting paid to do so. It was petty and embarrassing. |

My Mother and Grandmother are like that only it's just a bit different.
Instead of driving home the complaints to the staff they just nag and shit talk to everyone else sitting at the table. I mean it's like they enjoy nothing more than to bitch about every little thing regarding restaurant service but it's never a big enough deal to actually take action. Drives me nuts. |

There are a few family members I will no longer go to restaurants with as a result of their childish complaining.
I tend to tip a bare minimum of 5$... 10$ tab?... I leave 5$. 20$+ tab and I leave more... but even a quick lunch at a greasy spoon and I leave at least 5$. This might explain why many places I go I am greeted by name and am on a first name basis with most of the staff.

This reminds me.
I used to eat lunch with a former co worker who would begin the meal by putting a stack of singles at the edge of the table. Each time the waitress did the slightest thing to annoy him he would take a dollar off the stack and put it in his pocket making sure she saw him do it. Whatever remained was her tip Eventually I stopped eating lunch with him over it. Told him if he wanted an extra side of lung butter with his meal that was fine but I thought that was weapons grade asshole behavior. |

Because I hear story after story of groups of black people running up 80+ bills and literally leaving NO tip. These are the types that sit at a table, maybe order an appetizer, make their own lemonade with water, lemon wedges, and sugar and tie up the table for an hour. If you can't afford to tip you need to keep your broke-ass home. |

Good staff is hard to find, customers aren't. I loved it when after tearing into someone they asked for the owner, and I'd get to say "I am the owner!" Had a delivery driver get his ass chewed (customer gave the wrong suburb) so it was late. The two suburbs are about 20 min apart. So the driver called me I asked to put me on the phone with the customer. I suggested the best way to reheat the food, and how it wasn't our responsibility that he gave the wrong address. He started yelling at me, so I said fuck you, you're done never buy from us again. I left a description for the staff up front, if he called for a delivery they were to give me the phone so I could tell him to fuck off. He gave up after the third try. I'd pull pics from facebook for the blacklist in case we had a new waitress they'd know who wasn't allowed. I never spat in anyone's food or sick shit like that, and if I ever caught any of the cooks doing it I would have fired them. Although we did have one asshole arab guy that we also has some problems with, nothing to kick him out over. Till one day he took it too far. I 'accidentally' used bacon grease instead of vegetable oil in my wok just for him. Restaurant was halal, except his food that night. After he ate, blacklisted. Another thing I learned, the most high maintenance, rude, and pain in the ass diners were food bloggers. Good for you, you have wordpress, and a point and shoot camera, you're not a reviewer for a major newspaper, fuck off. Our loyal customers loved us, and we treated everyone with respect, and were more than hospitable, but I wouldn't let my staff be abused. The staff loved my approach, and it payed off dearly in the end. That's a whole different story but anyway. |

I WILL NEVER eat with the Southern portion of my family again after the debacle I witnessed last time:
Someone "pre-gaming" and after his 4th gin and tonic accusing the waitress of switching him over to the cheap stuff. 5 yo girl, allowed to scream NOOOOOO! as loud as she could until given permission to have only mac n cheese and cheese fries for supper-and she's a lardo already Asked to switch sides of the table because a mixed race family "turns my stomach" An uncle taught a 10 year old "his trick" to eat a third of a steak and then ask to send it back because they'll cook another one 5 and 10 year olds calling each other "faggots" I apologized profusely and left a whopping tip but it still ruined the surrounding tables night. Oh wait,I haven't even visited since then.I'm just the weird liberal Yankee uncle to that rabble and if it was anyone else I'd laugh but yeah,it sucks
