Any one ever hunt big-big game like elephants and such.  What size of cal. would you use?  Ive been researching .375 H&H but I've been told their under powered.

Why did you use the 700 Nitro Express to kill the Elephant?
Because they don't make a 900 Nitro Express.

We built this rifle on a 50 BMG single shot action, and a 23 1/5" barrel made in Ferlach, Austria. The rifle weighs in at 18 1/4 pounds. We used Searcy brass and Federal 215 primers. We had hang fires in all the loads we tried, until we used 2 grains of Alliant Bullseye to help ignite the powder charge. No hang fires were experienced in any of the loads with 2 grains of Bullseye. The load with 250 grains of VVN 160 is maximum. 5 more grains of powder resulted in a very stiff bolt, and when opened we found the primer has fallen out of the case.

It is much better to have a small gun you shoot well than a big gun that makes you flinch.

Though AR15 is populated by many high-octane testosterone pumping men, the .45+ caliber African magnums still pack a good punch.

Most any guide would rather have someone that can shoot 1" groups with thier .375 than 12" with a .458

My physics is a little rough but if you have a bullet that has 13240 FT/LBS of energy the muzzle you are sucking up 13240 FT/LBS on the other end.  OUCH!  I bet that would leave snot on the stock.

If you are trying to take an elephant, i would want the .50 BMG.

Again. If you are traveling to a place where you can shoot an elephant legally the cost of the .50 sholdn't be a concern.

That is NOT a joke that is seriously stupid.  That could have easily got someone killed or hurt really bad.  I would have walked out and butt stroked everyone in the shop for that one.

I'm not planning on hunting with these(though I wish I could).  I only ask because I am curious.

.50 bmg isnt best choice for elephant sized game, they have high blood volume and low blood pressure so you must go for a head shot only. To ensure a kill you want a big fat softnose bullet that dumps all its energy into a big bony skull and the force will scramble the brain, a .50 might just go through. I know absloutely nothing of elephant hunting but this is what ive heard so take it with a grain of salt

.50 BMG may be illegal in some of those countries as well.  Semi autos and camo are.  Military carts in general might be.

Lots of elephants were cleanly taken with a 7X57 Mauser with solid bullets.
That would not be my first choice but obviously it can be done.

.375 H&H Magnum is probably a strating but I would go a little bigger.

Those are a start, I've got a .375 H&H and I love it.  It's the preferred gun for bears and lions.  It feeds very smoothly due to the shoulder on the round and ammo. is realatively common.  However if I was after cape buffalo, elephants, or hippos I would use a .470 nitro express or a .460 weatherby, or best of all a .475 Lazzeroni Bibamufu (that really is the name of the round), they, Lazzeroni, also make a .416 (the meteor) it has 6900 ft #s with a 400 grain bullet.  Oh and final advice I would NOT shoot any of these in the prone.
