I remember a few years ago that there was a bill before congress to make English the official  language of the country. If memory serves, the bleeding heart(this land is my land, this land is your land)liberals got that killed. In my job probably three quarters of my customers have a problem with the language. They expect me to understand what they want.Sorry,I only speak English and a few words that in  Spanish. My question is does any one else feel that if you come into this country and cannot speak the native tongue I do not have to learn or hire people who do understand your language to warrant your business or respect?

This is America.  We speak English here.  I live in South Florida and some stores ever go as fas as to post "WE SPEAK ENGLISH."  I thought that was hilarious.

It is very frustrating communicating with people who don't speak English.  I have no problem with people coming to this country in search of a better life, that is how my ancestors came here.

However, I do have a problem with people not really making an effort to learn the language of the country they live in.  My favorite was Uncle Lazaro or whatever his name was in the Elian scandal a few years ago who lives here like 20-30 years and still didn't know English.

All I know is if I moved to a different country I would make every effort possible to learn the native language.

It's ok to honor where you came from, but you should also respect where you are.
