Our small town is getting a Dunham's. We have an Academy and Bass Pro 30 min away in the larger metro. Anyone familiar and what's the opinion on them.

The gander mountain that fucked a big lots and kept the cheesy shit but forgot to drop the prices.

The only time you'll get a price at or lower than MSRP is from their flyer specials.
Here in MI, they carry alot of Savage bolts snd Mossberg shotguns. Not the highest pricing, i bought a Moss500 shotgun on sale for $190
Sale prices on guns and ammo are still higher than "normal" prices. They do price match though.
In my experience the only thing that sucks worse than their selection is their prices.
I haven't been inside one in ten years though, so no recent experience. |

I have lived down here for 10 years and I bet I hadn't shopped in one for 5-6 years before I moved. |

The gander mountain that fucked a big lots and kept the cheesy shit but forgot to drop the prices. LOL. This. I spent 5 minutes in the Burlington, NC one and decided Wal-Mart was a better choice. Burlington nc one wouldn't sell me an m&p 15/22 because I mentioned that I was going to teach my kid how to use a firearm with it. Told me I was making a straw purchase and refused the transaction. Store manager backed the gun counter shitbird. Last time I ever went in there. |
Is more local selection ever a bad thing?
Over the years back in MI, they were the only ones to carry a certain thing I needed locally. They saved my hunt one year by being the only place within an hour that carried muzzle loader sabots and powder. |
I stopped in one while on vacation last year. Even the sale stuff was way over priced. And I thought our local GM was expensive.
They had a pretty good selection though, so if you want someplace to go finger bang a gun before you buy it online it would be worth the trip. |

Back in the 90's when I was in high school, Dunham's was where you bought last year's Nikes for half price. They also used to sell a lot of mil-surp rifles.
I got a 20 percent off coupon and got a eotech for 350 bucks. Used it for a few years and got 410 dollars recall. They have some alright prices from time to time. |
My impression of them, from going into one store, is that they are a lot like Dicks, except that they seem to love black rifles (plenty of ARs and HK clones of some sort).

We have one about ten miles from the house. I have bought a 870 for my daughter - she was with me and they knew it was for her. No straw purchase bullshit. I have also bought 3 ARs from them in the past few months.
This past weekend I bought my daughter some boots for a pheasant hunt coming up and an orange vest and camo jacket and gloves. All on sale and decent pricing IMO. Usually little to no wait at the gun counter compare to Gander where you sit with a fucking number for over a damn hour to find out they don't have your gun in stock, can't order it and won't honor the sale price if it comes in after the sale either. No rain checks. |

The gander mountain that fucked a big lots and kept the cheesy shit but forgot to drop the prices. View Quote Wow. That is surprisingly accurate. There are occasional good deals, but most of the stuff they sell, I just don't want. The stuff I do want is less expensive everywhere else. They have a few decent coupons every now and then. |
they used to sell the 15 round boxes of Yugo M67 7.62x39, often on sale for $3.69 each which was a decent deal. Then that began to dry up and Sandy Hook happened and shit got all retarded.
I bought my WASR at a Dunham's for $379 in 2011, now I see them in the ads for, like, $699 ![]() |
I have no idea how they stay in business, side from one of my acquaintances who buys everything there because he has no common sense. Also, they sold out the AR community after Sandy Hook, but then picked then back up again after things quieted down.
I don't see a good reason to enter one, what with the internet being a thing and all. |
Got one here in town, only time for decent prices is Black Friday. The grand opening and Black Friday only times I ever went to it
![]() It's the big lots of sporting goods stores. |
I bought some ear pro from ours once. Better quality than Walmart for about the same price. Gun and ammo prices seemed terrible but that seems to be the nature of big box sporting goods stores.

Higher than giraffe pussy. View Quote If said Giraffe was in a 747 at cruising altitude. Dunhams is ridiculous. Bucket of golden bullet .22LR =$ 135.00 ![]() Shoes, fishing gear, everything. Their sales are a joke, because they mark off 20% and are still higher than Gander Mountain. I don't see how they can stay in business. |
They've always got 20% off coupons. That brings it down to about 20% more than everyone else. There are about 4 of them with in 40 miles of me. Don't get too excited OP or you're going to be disappointed.
They do suck, but you can get some good deals on shit there on Black Friday! I got my my Mosin and an AK there on that sale and carried them out of the mall through the door with the no guns sign. Gotta do what you gotta do.
![]() ![]() The ammo prices there were the highest I've ever seen, but that was almost ten years ago. Sorry to ramble... ![]() |

we have a dunhams near here, they are overpriced, as many stores are. They are really only good for picking up a last minute range supply of ammo. Nothing big. I don't think any store I have been to has more than 2 employees working, so finding someone to assist you can be a challenge.

They used to be the Mecca of surplus guns. Anything that some army used to fight a war they had it there.
I used to get their paper every week when I lived in Detroit. I remember they used to advertise Saiga 12s for $225. Why didn't I buy a Saiga 12 for $225 every fucking Saturday? ![]() |

Their Black Friday sales are about the only thing that's decent for firearms. They have discounts of 20% pretty regularly for sporting good. We get baseball stuff and some golf stuff there on occasion.
