I'd guess that they weren't shooting at the kids, they were shooting at the adult with the device on his shoulder that he was aiming at them.
Bigass TV cameras probably look a lot like AT missiles at a distance. What I've never understood is the reality disconnect and ego necessary for a reporter to somehow think that they can wade into chaos and expect all sides to respect their safety. |

"and in this slowed-down version, a loud pop can be heard as the tank's round passes the camera, that is Mahmoud's asshole slamming shut.
"Mahmoud hasn't filmed action since." |

Surprising the kids or the reporter weren't killed. What can we say? the slow motion incoming round was pretty cool. This. I guess the action scenes in The Matrix were real after all. |

Meanwhile, inside the tank the gunner was overheard saying "Dammit! I thought I had the trigger-select switch on coax!"

Even though it would be really gruesome and terrible, if the kid "caught it", that would make for some epic war footage.

Don't point shit at a tank should be the title.
Seems pretty obvious to me. |

In a related video, an Abrams rolls over a car bomb and the car goes kaboom underneath it. Link

Could have been one of those less-than-lethal tank rounds the Israelis have. Would account for the lack of injury bar concussion, and the slower speed of the round.
NTM |

According to some that round should have ripped of his arm just for passing so close!!!
Haha |

In 2006 we lost a tank driver who ran over an IED. Tankers lay flat on their back and the explosion just like that one was enough for his back to break. Not cool. |

NTM Probably one of these: http://www.imi-israel.com/home/doc.aspx?mCatID=67059 One suspects that had the shot been a HE-MP-T or APAM, they'd have all been sponged off the concrete rather than walking away with concussions. |

They say "without warning, the tank fired a shot." Bullshit. That was a warning shot.

During the last Isreal v Lebanon conflict a similar event occurred. A film crew was doing a scene on the side of the road and the reporter decided to use an Isreali tank as a "background" prop. He forgot to tell the tank crew that was about 300 meters away that they were on TV. Instead you see a variable fused round leave the muzzle and then everything goes KABOOM! They scraped the cameraman off the side of the road and the reporter's haircut that week was free!

The tanks projectile looks like it brushed the pole.
Point a shoulder thing that goes horizontal at a tank and win an appropriate prize. Ditto for anything that looks like that shoulder thingie. The bad guys were trying to provoke the tank crew, they got what they wanted. They got less than they deserved. |
