Dominatrix Acquitted In Massachusetts Bondage Death
The Associated Press

A dominatrix was acquitted of manslaughter Monday in the death of a man who prosecutors say suffered a heart attack while strapped to a replica of a medieval rack.

Barbara Asher, a 56-year-old woman who called herself Mistress Lauren M, was also cleared of dismemberment.

Prosecutors said that 53-year-old Michael Lord suffered a heart attack in 2000 during a bondage session in a "dungeon" in Asher's condominium and that Asher did nothing to help him for five minutes for fear authorities would find out about her business.

Asher had her boyfriend chop up the body of the 275-pound retired telephone company worker, and they dumped it behind a restaurant in Maine, prosecutors said. His remains have never been found.

Prosecutors said Asher confessed to police, but the alleged confession was not taped, and investigators testified they did not save their notes.

Asher's lawyer, Stephanie Page, said there was nothing to prove Lord was even dead - no body, no blood, no DNA.

During his closing argument to the jury, prosecutor Robert Nelson put on a black leather mask with a zippered mouth opening and re-enacted the bondage session. With both hands, he reached back and clutched the top of a blackboard as if strapped to the rack. Then he hung his head as if dead.

Asher's lawyer objected, and the judge agreed.

"That's enough Mr. Nelson," Judge Charles Grabau said. "Thank you for your demonstration."

#1.  The guy was asking for it.  Really.

#2. That was no demonstration, that was an audition.

Why aren't you talking in third person?  The last OBSERVER we had did that.

You have to keep up the tradition.

So if I hit somebody with my car accidentally when they walk in front of my vehicle or hit me (it being their fault) then hide the fact that I killed them, dismember the corpse, and dispose of it, I can get aquitted?!

I am familiar with The_Neutral_Observer, and the thought did cross my mind.  I decided not to for two reasons.  First, it's just too damned hard to not type "I".  Second, he was far more insightful than I, and any confusion about my identity would only have been a disservice to him.

THe old saying 'no body no crime' comes to mind.

And the fact that the PD didn't do their job. How the hell do you NOT tape a confession, AND LOSE THE NOTES?

They spent too much time surfing kiddie porn at work and there wasn't enough time left to do their jobs.

This happens a lot more than some would like to believe.  Many cases are goat fucked and time is the killer.  Then longer that it takes for a case to come to trial, the more likelihood of a person in the chain of evidence getting fired for stupid actions, thus compromising the case.

/first hand.

Wow, Mass seems to have a lot of problems convicting people of murder.

You're assuming the confession existed in the first place.z

No corpse, no verified confession, no notes . . . what did they expect?

It's the detectives' word against the dominatrix's.  You guys think she should have been convicted?!?!?

And just what is wrong with our legal system? If you don't like it, run for office, or get the hell out of the country.

The prosecution didn't have a case. They LOST their evidence. No evidence, no case.

Would yo urather have a system that is set up to find you guilty in the absence of evidence? I hope not. But if you do, you can go live where they hang rape victims.

I dated a chick for a while that was a dominatrix.  She didn't bring her work home with her, just some funny stories.
