I must break you.

What happened to this guy's career ? The last couple things I've seen his name on were straight to DVD films?

That and The Expendables.

Sadly the era of the big bad 80s and 90s action heroes/villains have gone away.  He's not the only one.

His main appeal was a physically strong character.

As age lines started to appear on his face and the "prime of his life" vitality faded, he couldn't get those roles anymore.

Arnold, Stallone, and others have a much harder time pulling that off these days too.  They can still get roles as "seasoned" criminals or heros, but not so much super hero characters.

Funny thing about Lundgren is he's actually very smart; holds a Masters in chemical engineering IIRC.

ETA: I imagine he fell back on that when his acting career waned.

It seems the age of men that are rough around the edges has given way to CGI, high kicking slow motion kung fu vampires and other silly girlyboy type crap. We have a few relics making movies still, but the hey day of blowing up entire buildings, killing entire armies, and stomping the communist badguys is over.

Yep. Age caught up with him. But it's good to have his movies these days on Blue Ray/HD.

In January 2009, Lundgren's Marbella home was reportedly broken into by three masked burglars who tied up and threatened Qviberg, but fled when they spotted a family photo and realized that the house was owned by Lundgren. The intruders are still at large.

He graduated from the Royal Institute of Technology. He has a master's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Sydney (1982). He was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1983, but he quit after two weeks to pursue acting. He speaks Swedish, English, Spanish, some German, some French, some Japanese, and some Italian.[5] Lundgren completed his mandatory military service in Sweden at the Amphibious Ranger School. During his service at the elite marine unit (Kustjägarna), he suffered an injury which had him reassigned and separated from his unit.

Red Scorpion.  He was left for dead by his Soviet masters and some wee little tiny of a African bushman saves him and gives him new life.  Dolph then grabs the Soviets new wonder weapon, a double barreled LMG and woops arse with it.

Not a bad move, but very close to the Rambo story lines.
