So I have a 100lb Golder Retriever. And a two level deck. Bottom level has lattice all around along with electrified wire. Top deck has fencing all around. Somehow the Damn dog is getting under the porch. Help and pics will come this evening.

It got shade anywhere in the yard?

I suspect the dog is tunneling under.

The only solution is to amputate her legs.

My dog hides her stolen toys there.

This. Chainsaw works best.

I am about to SSS the stupid thing. Tunneling is a negative due to the wire being 6 inches off the ground.

Leash?

remove deck, problem solved

dog has a full acre back yard that is fenced in along with 1 car garage that he has access to. Plenty of shade and grass and entertainment cause of the squirlls. Why would I put him on a leash when he is fenced? I just can't figure out how he is getting under. We have every place we can see fenced and wired. I am going to just shoot him.

My father has a dog... black lab... that literally tunnels underground. Like a gopher. I shit you not.
She's got out of the backyard a couple times this way. The entrance & exit holes were over 6' apart.

And make sure you burn the legs into ash, or they'll regenerate!

Maybe God wants him under the deck, and miracled his ass down there?

You say "electrified", with what? Get you a Red Snapper intermittent capable of charging a 20 mile fence, and that'll be the last time that dog thinks about going under there. I bought two different Fido Shock chargers and they work on only one of my dogs. The other two are like, "Meh..." Those pussy Fido Shock dog chargers suck.

When my dogs have dug I used rebar and pounded into the ground where they made a hole. After awhile they gave up. I also had a chained link fence that one Lab would push though the bottom to escape. I cabled the bottom of the fabric and made a candycane shape out of the rebar and pounded the cable into the ground.

Can he get out again? If you leave him long enough you might be able to observe how he does it.
Link Posted: 7/31/2009 9:43:16 AM EST
setup your trail camera to see how he is doing it.
Link Posted: 7/31/2009 9:44:58 AM EST
It could be worse.... He could be upper decking you.
Link Posted: 7/31/2009 9:45:04 AM EST
What you need to do is get a container that he can not get into. Put a offensive smelling item in there that would bother him every time he goes under there, but does not bother you.
Link Posted: 7/31/2009 9:46:17 AM EST
Can't believe no one has said it....

Call the cops?

100 pounds?

That is a fucking big Golden Retreiver.

That would feed a family of 5 in Korea for a month.

No, no, no... you have it all messed up. You put him the dog in a container he cannot get out of. The rest is correct.

Not sure if he can get back out. I dont think he can. He lives at my moms house.......in the basement lol. I moved out and couldnt take him with me yet so I dont get to observe him often. I will get pictures tonight and maybe one of you can see the flaw in my design. I have looked everywhere. I have taken hot dogs down with me under the deck and called him and he wouldnt come under with me. He is smart about his sneakyness.

So your dog figured out how to get under the deck but you can't?

I must not be understanding what you want help with. Help on how he is getting under your deck? Take a walk around and figure it out. It's hard to do that from the webs..

Got any vans with black windows parked outside your house?? Maybe the dog knows something and you should take cover too????

Why can't he be allowed under the damned deck?
Link Posted: 7/31/2009 12:03:10 PM EST
Dogs have a natural urging to find a den, and it would appear yours has chosen the deck for his. You can either make a doorway for him to get in and out and let him have his spot, or do twice as much work to keep him out.

He may have shade in the yard, but one reason that dogs dig is to lay in the cool earth when it's hot. Maybe he has found that not only is there shade under there, but nice cool dirt for him to lay in.

Either the dog can walk thru walls or he figured out how to make wormholes..

LOL, yea right. I forgot that I tried that before all the Fido Shock crap. This sucked worse because it was back breaking work installing it. Above ground wires too an hour or so.

hide under the deck wearing a ninja mask armed with a stun gun.

He dug his 'den" under the deck....it goes under the foundation of the house and is deep enough I can get all the way back in it with room to spare. So we cant have him doing that because he gets nasty muddy and makes a huge pool under the house weakening the foundation.....I know how to get under the deck. But can't figure out how he is getting under there. I have a few pictures but will have to wait to upload them when I find my card adapter. Problem is he gets under and can't get back out. That along with the mess he makes is why he doesn't need to be under there.

Link Posted: 8/1/2009 7:03:17 AM EST
Well, if you'd stop hiding the bodies there, he'd stop wanting to go there!

Sheesh!

When my German Shepard started going under my porch she was acting very strange... I woke up one morning to her having seizures, had to put her down. Make sure there isn't any poisons under there...

Absolutely! Having a dog that is more intelligent than you is an aberration! No wonder you can't get laid with that damn dog always showing you up!
