kinda, but only because i am not used to seeing AKs with optics.

if its funtional and works for you, then its awesome.

i just like to see AK's as AK's with nothing mounted.

That is a Russian POSP scope if it makes you feel any better.

Only looks goofy to me because the scope is WAY farther back then what I would use.
I think......

That is going to be an uncomfortable cheek to stock weld.

I pray it has a long barrel and not a standard AK barrel.

Cause if it doesnt have a long barrel, its useless.

The last 3" is the rubber eyepiece that comes with the scope. Putting your eye on the rear piece of rubber ensures a consistent sight picture. Kinda like keeping your nose on the charging handle.

Is the stock long enough to shoulder well?

I'm just hoping to tighten up my groups some at 100 yards and make it effective at 200 yards.

it does, considering you are keeping parts originated from across the pond.

its just that an AK has a certian thing about it being a rifle that needs no optics and can take one hell of a beating.

what are you grouping with that scope?
Link Posted: 8/16/2005 5:19:38 PM EDT
Yes IMHO it looks goofy.
Link Posted: 8/16/2005 5:20:29 PM EDT
It's looks kinda odd.
Link Posted: 8/16/2005 5:21:19 PM EDT
If it helps your group, who cares?

Barely, but it's workable.

Exactly. I am sure all the naysayers here would feel really dumb if they had to go head to head with someone packing an AK with optics if they only had an AK... suddenly you appreciate how much optics can add to a weapons effectiveness.

looks funky, but looks no matter

To get a decent group you would be close enough to not even need a scope.

Have you tried mounting rails or drilling forward to allow you to mount the scope farther forward? How does it work in the prone position? Otherwise looks good.

I wouldn't say that for sure, I have an nhm91 that gets 6" groups at 250 yds, my maximum range that I have to shoot. I have a scope on it too. Not as nice as Steve's of course, mine is a tasco.

Looks a lot better in the second pic. Maybe it was the shadows or lighting in the first pic???

No, I'll ditch the scope long before I start tinkering with this gun. She runs like a swiss watch.

How does it work in the prone position?

'bout the same.

Good Lord that thing is HUGE. But, if it works who cares what it looks like.
Link Posted: 8/16/2005 5:35:12 PM EDT
I wouldn't do it but heck, I don't like scopes on lever guns either. If it helps you hit what you're aiming at then go for it, otherwise it just makes a quick handling AK a bit cumbersum in my book. JMHO, YMMV.

This thing cost me $150.00, might have been more than your Tasco but it isn't a Leupold by any means.

Yes,it looks goofy.

you'll put your eye out....

(and fix that chicken wing)

It should be posing for pictures with kids at friggin' Disneyland. Yes it's Goofy.
Link Posted: 8/16/2005 5:44:25 PM EDT
I would just mount a 4x on it and be done with it.
Link Posted: 8/16/2005 5:49:36 PM EDT
Looks goofy to me, only since the scope does seem to be waaay back there.
I realize there is a large relief, but still much too close for me.

Marc Krebs makes a mount that'll throw that scope forward some, so you can get position on the weapon. I had one for my PSO-1...it just replaces the part of the mount that the attaches to the throw lever, it's really easy to swap out. Made a BIG difference.

If your setup proves uncomofortable, you might want to get one, if he still has 'em.

That scope just appears to be further back than it should be. It doesn't look goofy and if that scope position works for you, then it's right.
Link Posted: 8/16/2005 7:17:22 PM EDT
Well since you asked.............yes it looks goofy.
Link Posted: 8/16/2005 7:23:45 PM EDT
the scopes in my opinion really were not made for the ak. its just not that accurate
the rifle it was ment for:

and i still can't shoot below a 2 inch group with czech surplus. or wolf 148 grain FMJ
Link Posted: 8/16/2005 7:25:55 PM EDT
see how it feels, if you can manage, then cool.
Link Posted: 8/16/2005 7:36:12 PM EDT
It is yours do as you please, if it works, cool beans. Pretty close to a black eye though. Hell that scope would work for .338
Link Posted: 8/16/2005 7:36:58 PM EDT
VERY Goofy.
